About Brenan
Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Brenan had a nice game both as an off-ball linebacker and in getting some pass-rushing snaps off the edge in 3rd down situations. His most notable play came on 3rd down near the end of the first half when he got a nice rush around the left tackle and chased the West Team quarterback down for a big sack. Brenan also did a good job overall, making tackles and getting everyone lined up correctly on a consistent basis.

Brenan has been a strong part of the Warriors’ defense this season, playing alongside some big-name players and Power 4 commits. Weddington always has some excellent players who fit around their more well-known players, but don’t get it twisted. Brenan is an excellent linebacker who is tough in the middle, can cover in space, and is a very good tackler. Brenan should turn some heads during Bowl Week in practice.

Every year, amidst all of the Power Four talent, Weddington seems to have a guy who can line up anywhere on the defense and make a big impact both inside and outside. Schauer’s speed and athleticism, like a lot of the guys at that hybrid role before him, let Weddington stay in its base defense, even against three and four-receiver sets, as Schauer has no issues flexing into the slot corner role. He can fly, and he’s not afraid to hit. Elon just stepped in with his first FCS offer, another green flag in his profile.

Schauer is tough and athletic, a great combination for a linebacker. He’s competitive and can really move, especially horizontally to the line of scrimmage. He plays the big slot/flexed out linebacker role that has become famous on Weddington’s defense over the years, so he has to be able to have the speed and agility to match up with speedy receivers.

Intensity is the best adjective I could use to describe Brenan, and that’s a common trait that you see with a number of Weddington defenders throughout the years. Brenan competed well with all of his 1 on 1 reps and took coaching well throughout the entirety of the showcase. Good lateral movement through the agility circuit and individual drills were standout traits for Brenan as well. After the showcase, Brenan picked up his first offer from Hampden-Sydney College.
