It has been widely believed that Keland has moved over to Chambers High School for his senior season, as he was on a recent visit to Missouri, and was wearing Chambers High School gear. This would be a major change, and I would expect Keland to definitely be impacting both sides of the ball at Chambers. That being said, Keland can play almost anywhere on defense, but it appears schools are recruiting him as a defensive back prospect currently. Keland is a dynamic wide receiver offensively and can be an impact returner on special teams as well. As mentioned earlier, Keland is starting to take some visits with Missouri and Wake Forest being the most recent. Missouri State, Army, and Georgia State have been the most recent offers for Keland.

Keland has shown some electric ability in his past at the wide receiver spot and as a returner on special teams, but this season, Keland really turned it up on the defensive side of the ball. Keland has played a couple of different positions, but he really excelled this past season at the EDGE position. His standout performances were repeated dominant games against Ardrey Kell – one to win the conference championship, the second to win in the 1st round of the playoffs. Since the end of the season, Keland has received offers from Missouri and Nebraska, and he has started setting official visits with Wake Forest and Clemson, respectively.

As a sophomore, Shelton did the majority of his damage on offense. As a junior, though, he was a dynamic defender, playing a rover role in the slot, as a safety, and even as the occasional stand-up edge rusher. He’s long and fast, able to mirror receivers and make plays on the ball in coverage.

A two-way player, Shelton will likely make his home on the offensive side of the ball as a receiver in college. He’s so athletic, as evidenced by his ability to play edge rusher on defense and his talent after the catch at receiver. While he’s still learning the position, 6’3″ and 190 pounds with speed and power tends to translate to the next level.

Keland has excelled as both a receiver and EDGE defender, along with showing skills in the return game for the Panthers. Keland had a really strong season as a receiver, showing very strong hands and excellent speed for his size. Keland showed an advanced ability to line up both on the outside or in the slot, and win against any kind of coverage thrown his way. Defensively Keland showed some good speed off the edge in getting to the quarterback. Keland also made some plays in the return game, showing off some impressive agility in the open field. Keland currently has several Power 4 offers and should continue to see more come his way over the summer.

Keland has been a special talent since his 9th-grade year, and he took a big step on the field this past season, stepping into the player that he can truly become on both sides of the ball. As a defender, Keland is an EDGE prospect who shows some positional versatility. Keland had 15 quarterback pressures, 2.5 sacks, and an interception. Offensively, Keland had 43 catches for over 650 yards and 5 touchdowns. I saw Keland live this season, and he also is a major contributor in the kick return game on Special Teams. Keland has strong hands catching the football, and for his size, he has excellent speed and can get to his top speed very quickly in the open field. Keland currently has offers from Syracuse, Kentucky, East Carolina, and Arkansas State. More recruiting attention will definitely be coming his way.

I haven’t seen much of Keland live as a wide receiver, but I came away very impressed with him in this game. Keland has excellent speed and he showed that off on a 30 yard touchdown pass, beating a talented Mooresville DB in man-coverage. Keland also had a couple of nice catches over the middle where he was able to catch and run, making defenders miss as he picked up additional yardage. Keland also had an impressive punt return where he showed great vision with the football in his hands. Given his size, I think he is on his way to being a Division 1 player on the next level.
