Shawn is still a talented back; this past season, he was playing with some very young teammates on the offensive side of the ball, and that really kind of hindered his statistical production overall. However, the speed and smoothness of Shawn’s overall game were impressive, as I’ve always seen from him in the past. I’m excited to see what he does in his senior season.

Shawn had a couple of nice runs in this game, but his yardage was well earned because Garinger seemed to be really focused on shutting anything down in the running game before it got going. When Shawn did get free, it was more so on the edges of the defense where he could use his good speed to get into space and make some things happen.

Shawn was a major workhorse for the Hawks’ offense in their scrimmage against North Gaston. Shawn showed a nice combination of speed and power with the ball in his hands, with a lot of his runs hitting off-tackle or to the outside, taking advantage of his skillset well. Shawn even showed some wildcat quarterback looks, though he did not throw the ball in this scrimmage.

Shawn was the 2nd leading rusher on a team competing in one of the best overall conferences in the state of North Carolina. On the season, Shawn rushed for 431 yards on 51 carries, an impressive 8.5 yards per carry average. When you turn on the tape, the first thing you love about Shawn is his impressive overall speed. Shawn does a good job of identifying the hole and hitting it full speed ahead. As he grows into his body and adds weight, he will be able to effectively run through some tackles at the 2nd and 3rd levels of the defense to give him an even bigger home-run threat ability as a running back. I’m excited to see him over the next two years.
