Malachi was the leading receiver in this game for the Cougars, and he was able to show off his speed and explosive ability to separate in coverage downfield. He’s been off to a strong start so far this season for Chambers, and his play has given a receiver they can go to in critical situations. Malachi has developed well in his career, and he’ll be a player defenses will start keying in on as we get closer to conference play.

Gant will be a key piece for the Cougars this season. Last year, he primarily contributed as a receiver, catching 17 passes in six games while adding a handful of carries. We expect him to play both ways this year, and safety may actually be his best position. This is an upside ranking as we think he could have a strong start to the year.

I wanted to include Malachi on this preview because I’ve seen him up close at showcases perform really well on either side of the ball. He’s got excellent speed and athleticism, and I really think he’s got an opportunity to break out this season as a known player for the Cougars. I’ve heard some good things about him so far this summer in 7 on 7 competition, and I’m really interested to see how that translates early this season for him.

Gant is a jittery runner with the ability to get down the field. He also flashed the ball skills and hands to make tough catches, two things that bode well for his chances to play receiver full-time in the future.
