‘s future as a prospect if he earns a varsity starting job as a sophomore for the Highlanders. We’re expecting him to do so as a Top 10 overall prospect in his class and the #1-ranked offensive lineman. Avery has some great older linemen to learn under for another season and could be a future P4 prospect by his senior year.
Here’s what we recently said about Avery in our 2028 Rankings Debut article:
“Another Huntington 2028 prospect who D1 programs will want to know is OL

. He’s still very far from his final form as a player, which is expected from young linemen, but Avery has all of the physical tools to develop into a future high-level prospect. He already has the early size that will catch college attention, and he will continue to develop his technique and athleticism as he gets older. Expect him to make his mark on varsity this season among a loaded offensive line group that should be the best in the state, with several D1 prospects among them that will get early eyes on Avery.”

One of the early top 2028 OL in the state to know is at one of the best programs at developing offensive linemen with Huntington’s

. As a freshman, Avery was a top performer at the PRZ WV Stock Up Showcase last month and has a bright future at his position. Size is obviously what you notice first when you see Avery on film and in person and has a leg up on most of his fellow 2028 WV offensive linemen in that regard. Footwork, explosiveness, and overall athleticism will continue to develop over the next three years which will take his game to new levels, but the early signs show that Avery will get there in time.

We’re confident in saying that 2028 Huntington OL

will rank among the top offensive linemen in his class throughout his high school career. Avery is a massive young athlete in the 6’5 300 range who doesn’t look like your average freshman offensive lineman. He’s built well for his size and age and well ahead of the curve compared to most 2028 OL. Avery looked strong and physical at the Stock Up Showcase with powerful hands that could set defenders down on first contact. He’s strong at the point of attack and likely a talented run blocker in a game setting. Some of the smaller and quicker defensive linemen gave him trouble at times which is common in camp settings, but Avery battled well at tackle as a freshman.
Feel confident in saying that 2028 Huntington OL @tyleravery61 will be at the top of the 2028 OL rankings the next three years. Already has the size and strength above most freshman offensive linemen. pic.twitter.com/qyNHi4ifwh

is too big to miss at 6’4 and 310 lbs.. You can see the potential on tape and our very own Alan Popadines did a great breakdown of his work back in June. When West Virginia does their updated 2028 rankings you can be sure to see Avery’s name high on their list. The Division 1 potential is their and he had a good freshmen season for the Highlanders. Colleges will be salivating at his talent and he could prove everyone right with a good showing on Sunday. I will be curious to see how he holds up in the 1v1 portion as this is typically very hard for many offensive lineman to do. My bet is he does well and by this time next year he is one of the highest ranked recruits in the state.

There’s no sugarcoating the fact that Avery is a big of a project, as he gets set to enter Huntington High School. That said, there’s also no sugarcoating the fact that even the best coaches in the world can’t teach size, and Avery certainly has that at 6-foot-4 and 310-pounds. He was part of an undefeated 8th grade Fairland Middle School Dragons (Ohio) team this past season and will look to continue at as he moves into high school. Avery is a mountain of a young man who is getting better and better with each new clip I see. His agility and foot work still have a ways to go, but the improvements he has made since the season ended in October, tell me he’ll get there in time.

– Listed at 6-foot-4, 295 pounds and double-knee brace’d up, it’s kind of hard to miss Avery at left tackle and defensive tackle for the Fairland Dragons in Proctorville, Ohio. A small town (just 523 residents in 2020) that is literally connected by a bridge to Huntington, West Virginia
– Was part of a team that finished 7-0-1 this year, winning the Ohio Valley Conference in the process. The largest member of a good offensive line that allowed star weapon Owen Burcham do his thing
– Avery checks the box in terms of size and , but he’s going to be a project. Down the line, his size alone will get him a foot in the door in terms of getting looks from colleges at all levels, but athleticism, speed, quickness, overall strength and consistent on-field effort must improve to maximize the physical gifts he has
