Expert Analysis
Matthew Layton | Prep Redzone Scout
2027 Huntington DL Jeremiah Lyles plays with natural leverage that gives him an edge up front. At 5’10, Lyles stays low and gets underneath offensive linemen, using his build to win the pad level battle right away. He fires off the ball with intent and keeps his base strong, making it tough for blockers to move him. Lyles pairs that leverage with active hands, shedding, and staying involved around the play. His ability to anchor and control reps at his size makes him a tough matchup inside.

is having a good start to his junior year for Huntington and has built off his quality sophomore campaign. He’s a difficult block for centers and guards as an athletic interior defensive lineman who plays with good leverage and pad level. Lyles can dip under his man consistently, making it hard for offensive linemen to stay in front and get their hands in good position on him. As Lyles continues to keep getting bigger and stronger, he’ll develop into a well-rounded interior prospect with the natural athletic traits he possesses.

in person a couple of times this summer, where he impressed us. You saw why he’s highly regarded by us in the 2027 rankings as the #3 DL prospect in the class. Size will be his biggest obstacle as a prospect that he will need to convince bigger colleges to overlook as an interior defensive lineman. The ability and athleticism are there, though for Lyles to do just that, and he should steadily progress over the next two seasons.

is a prospect who we’re high on, and you saw why at the Concord Prospect Camp. This was the second time seeing him in person this off-season, and Lyles has looked good both times. While he lacks some length, being an interior defensive lineman, he can get away with that, especially as he adds more mass to his frame. Lyles is explosive off the line with strength and power to utilize. Further growth in using his hands and developing some finesse pass-rush moves will benefit his game further in the future.

. He ranks as our #2 defensive lineman in the 2027 class right now after producing for one of the top programs in the state on both sides of the ball last season. His frame translates best along the defensive line and was one of the top interior DL at the showcase. Lyles doesn’t have elite size, but is strong and powerful for his age. He drove offensive linemen backward as a zero-tech throughout 1-on-1s, playing with low leverage and firing out of his stance.

saw varsity action for a talented Highlanders’ squad as a sophomore on both sides of the line and debuts as the #2 DL in the class. He has the potential to flip to the offensive line in the rankings in the future, but size better translates to defense at this juncture of his career. Huntington boasted a talented lineman group on both sides, which speaks volumes to Lyles’ potential, seeing significant playing time this early on. On defense, Lyles is quick off the line and uses his hands well as an interior lineman. He’s strong at the point of attack and can hold his ground on double teams while making plays at the line of scrimmage.
