McDonogh’s top defensive performers vs. Mt. Zion Prep

After defensive end Buchanan collapsed the pocket, Stabeline undercut the seam throw and returned the interception to the Mount Zion 26. That set up McDonogh's second touchdown drive. To open the second half, he scooped Griffin Vaughn's forced fumble around the 46 and took the left sideline for a touchdown that made it 38-0. He also stuffed a first-down run for no gain and showed up in the flat on another passing play. He finished the game with nine total tackles (five solo). Early in the first quarter, he had a nice open-field tackle on Mount Zion Prep's running back. Vaughan also came through with nice coverage down the sideline, causing incompletions on two separate occasions. His biggest play was forcing a fumble that led to Stabeline's scoop-and-score touchdown. If you actually watched the game, then you would agree that Buchanan was a thorn in Mt. Zion Prep's side all game when it came to passing. There were numerous instances where his pressure kept MZP's quarterback from getting comfortable and getting his feet set. It was Buchanan's pressure off the right edge that forced the throw that Stabeline intercepted. Several times throughout the game, Buchanan powered past offensive tackles and made life miserable for the quarterback. It's going to be hard to run to his side. Had a few tackles in the flat, including one where he tackled a running back immediately after he caught a swing pass on fourth down, denying the first down. He's credited with one tackle, but like Buchanan, he stayed in the face of Mt. Zion Prep's quarterback for the majority of the passing plays. I'm sure he'd like to finish those plays with a sack. But as the other bookend (Buchanan was the other) on McDonogh's defense, he helped the Eagles maintain pressure on a Mt. Zion Prep offense that had no choice but to keep passing after getting down big early. Not the biggest weight-wise, but his quickness off the ball enabled him to get around Mt.
