Washington signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] continues to have a stranglehold on the top spot for the 2028 quarterback group. Barrett has started for the Warriors since the first game of his freshman season. He's 26-2 as a starter and has made back to back appearances in the state championship game. We've seen some of the best QB prospects in the state make a significant jump from their sophomore to junior year over the last few seasons. We'll be keeping an eye on that for Barrett this fall. After coming up short in the 2A-1 state title game to Jones, we have a feeling that Barrett and the Warriors are going to come into the 2026 season hungrier than ever.

There's no other way to put it, Norman North is a quarterback factory and whoever is QB1 for the Timberwolves, he's going to be a name to know. It seems like they've had a future D1 QB or borderline D1 QB as their starter every year for the last decade. [player_tooltip player_id='1522514' first='Nash' last='Henry'] looks like he's going to be the next guy in that group. At this time last year, we were writing about Henry and the potential he had to take over this job. All signs pointed to Henry being the next guy for Norman North but he still had to go out and prove it. That's exactly what he did in his first season as QB1. He was one of the top passers in Class 6A-1 and in our opinion, he's just scratching the surface on what he can be.

Stillwater quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1173979' first='Satank' last='Taptto'] is on the shortlist of players we're excited to see this spring and into the fall. We saw flashes of what he can be in this Stillwater offense throughout the 2025 season. But he was also banged up and we're looking forward to seeing what he looks like at 100%. He's a terrific athlete that can absolutely torch defenses with his legs. But he also has the ability to stand in the pocket and push the ball down the field. And when the Pioneers take the field in 2026, they're going to have quite a few weapons around Taptto at the skill positions. If he stays healthy, he could lead one of the top offensive units in the state, regardless of class.

Deer Creek quarterback J [player_tooltip player_id='1828592' first='Dax' last='Chancey'] is a 2028 signal caller that could absolutely explode in the next nine months. With spring and summer right around the corner, it's an opportunity for Chancey to showcase how much he's grown as a passer since the end of his sophomore season. Chancey started for the Antlers and definitely saw some growing pains going against 6A-1 competition. But we think that this fall could be a big breakout season for him. The signs are there with his continued development, combined with a really strong group of wide receivers returning. Chancey could put up some big numbers this fall, making him a 2028 name to remember moving forward.

Bartlesville's [player_tooltip player_id='1167484' first='Michael' last='Kent'] has been starting or seeing significant playing time for the Bruins since his freshman season. Kent is a terrific athlete and that really doesn't get talked about enough around the state. He's a prospect that should be on more radars but there's a big opportunity coming his way this spring and fall. Bartlesville is entering a new era under first year head coach Matt Hennesy. And when you look at Hennesy's track record with quarterbacks over the last decade, it's a good one. Needless to say, Kent is in a really good position to see his production absolutely skyrocket. He's going to have the keys to an offense that could be much improved this fall.

Collinsville quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1884281' first='Carter' last='Vaughan'] was one of the breakout stars in Class 5A and in the state during the 2025 season. We didn't know anything about Vaughan coming into the season but that quickly changed. We saw Vaughan and the Cardinals in action early in the season and he immediately passed the eye test. One thing that stood out to us was the way he carried himself. He didn't look like a sophomore that was making one of his first few starts. He looked like a veteran that had already been through the fires. And for us, that's a scary thought because now, Vaughan comes into 2026 as a veteran with plenty of experience under his belt. He could take a huge step forward.

Del City quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1703435' first='Syncere' last='Overton'] is another 2028 prospect that enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign during the 2025 season. It didn't start like he would like, sidelined with an injury. But when he got on the field, he helped take this Del City offense to new heights. Overton is a terrific athlete and we saw that firsthand multiple times last fall. His speed is something that makes him dangerous and difficult for defenses to prepare for. As his passing continues to improve, he's going to become a true dual-threat weapon at the quarterback position. And when we look ahead to this fall, Overton is going to have plenty of weapons around him at wide receiver.

This is the first appearance in the Oklahoma 2028 rankings for [player_tooltip player_id='1199802' first='Dabin' last='Gaines'] after he moved to Pocola from Greenwood, Arkansas this offseason. The Indians have to replace a prolific passer and Gaines is the answer. We got a chance to watch him in person at our Showcase event and despite not being 100 percent, he passed the eye test. Then we talked with our Arkansas writers at PRZ and they're big believers in his upside moving forward. Gaines has a strong arm and can move around to allow plays to develop downfield. Pocola has had one of the top passing attacks over the last few seasons. It doesn't look like things will change as we look ahead to 2026.

Fort Gibson quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1839047' first='Karrson' last='Davis'] is another player that enjoyed a breakout 2025 season. Davis was in his first year as QB1 of the Tigers and in our opinion, he showed steady growth over the course of the season. When you look at his game logs, you see production that improved throughout the year and was even really strong against their toughest opponents. With arguably the nation's top OL prospect as the foundation of their offense, Davis is primed for another big season in 2026. Combine his return with one of the more versatile weapons in Class 4A at the running back position and you have the makings for a monster season for Fort Gibson.

Checotah quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522515' first='Cole' last='Rolland'] is another signal caller in the state's 2028 class that has been starting since his freshman season. Rolland was on our radar going into 2025 because we wanted to see how he would handle running this Checotah offense without the best player in the state at wide receiver. The Checotah sophomore passed that test and he expanded the way he can beat defenses. Without that major weapon at wide receiver, Rolland added a running element to his game and was incredibly efficient at it during his sophomore season. Similar to a few other two-year starters on this breakdown, we can't wait to see what kind of jump Rolland makes for Checotah this fall.

FIVE MORE QUARTERBACKS TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='976705' first='Isaiah' last='Butcher IV'] - Bixby

The last time we saw [player_tooltip player_id='976705' first='Isaiah' last='Butcher IV'] on the field, he was coming in for Jenks in the semifinals for their injured starting quarterback. Butcher had a really strong showing in that semifinal game and the next time we see him, he'll be suiting up for Bixby. Butcher will be one of several quarterbacks battling for the QB1 job this offseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='1249314' first='Liam' last='Kaplan'] - Holland Hall

We said this following our Showcase event last month but we'll repeat it here if you missed it. Holland Hall quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1249314' first='Liam' last='Kaplan'] gets better and better every time we see him in person. The Dutch are going to need a new quarterback this fall and Kaplan seems like he's in a good position to potentially win that job.

[player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] - Jenks

Jenks quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] is still a name to remember moving forward. He has a very strong arm and that's been the case since he was still in middle school. It looks like Young is patiently waiting for his number to be called. When it is, we expect him to back up the hype and have that breakout moment.

[player_tooltip player_id='1689516' first='Laken' last='Lee'] - Metro Christian

Metro Christian quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1689516' first='Laken' last='Lee'] is another name to just keep in mind moving forward. The Patriots got a recent move in this semester that might end up being QB1 in the fall. But when we watched the Patriots last spring, Lee looked like a young prospect that had a ton of potential in this Metro Christian offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1836765' first='Brayden' last='McMullen'] - Lincoln Christian

Lincoln Christian will be looking for a new quarterback when they start spring practice in May. The Bulldogs routinely have one of the better quarterbacks in the state so whoever wins the job is stepping into a good situation. [player_tooltip player_id='1836765' first='Brayden' last='McMullen'] is a name to look out for in this competition. He's calm, cool and collected and can absolutely spin it.
