We updated and expanded our 2028 rankings to feature the Top 100 sophomores in the state of Oklahoma. Plus plenty of more names to know moving forward on our watchlist. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at the running back position and this is a position group that is growing as several new names got added in this latest ranking update. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma all week for more 2028 prospect breakdowns.

Washington running back [player_tooltip player_id='474035' first='Josiah' last='Dickerson'] is the headliner for the 2028 running backs and it feels like it's been that way since he was in middle school. Dickerson is a name that we've known about for a while and he finally had that breakout moment during his sophomore season. He was splitting carries with a senior last fall, but he made the most of his opportunities. He also saw his recruitment start to take off and with him becoming the marquee back in this offense, it should only continue moving forward. Dickerson is a unique blend of quickness, strength and breakaway speed. He's a shorter running back but he is not small. He's one of the strongest running backs in the 2028 class and that's evident when he bounces off defenders.

Lincoln Christian speedster [player_tooltip player_id='1164507' first='CJ' last='Wright'] is another player that we're looking forward to seeing in an expanded role this fall. Wright split carries with another running back last season. But that player transferred out so Wright could see his workload expand on the offensive side of the ball. And the thing that impressed us the most about Wright's sophomore season is how impactful he was in every aspect of the game. He was a dynamic running back but he also produced as a pass catcher out of the backfield. He also played really solid defense in the secondary and he returned kicks at a high level. Similar to Dickerson, Wright is another 2028 prospect that we first saw in middle school and it's not surprising that he's producing at a high level now.

Owasso has a new running back with [player_tooltip player_id='1709321' first='Malakhy' last='Harris'] moving over from Hominy this offseason. There's a few things we're looking forward to seeing with Harris this fall. First off, we just want to see him back on the field and healthy. His sophomore season was cut short near the halfway mark with a season-ending injury. But secondly, Harris is going from competing in the smallest 11-man class with Hominy to the largest 11-man class with the Rams. Seeing what he does against that kind of competition week in and week out will be something to watch in 2026. But Harris is one of the more productive athletes in the 2028 class. He's a dynamic weapon on offense, equally as impactful as a runner as he is a pass catcher out of the backfield or split out at wide receiver.

Stillwater running back [player_tooltip player_id='1837221' first='Jaedan' last='Adams'] was one of the breakout stars from the 2028 class last fall. We first watched Adams up close last spring and it was apparent then that he had the chance to have a pretty special sophomore season. Then we watched him go to work in the fall and he turned out to be one of the best running backs in Class 6A-2. Adams is a very successful wrestler and that overall toughness was evident when he was carrying the ball 20-25 times a game. The Pioneers were not afraid to feed Adams the rock and he rarely got stopped and moved backwards. And if you tried to tackle him in a one on one situation, forget about it. Adams is another hard-nosed, physical running back that is going to fight and claw for every inch.

Bixby sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='589663' first='Brian' last='Jones Jr.'] is still a 2028 prospect that we like a lot moving forward. Jones was sidelined for most of the 2025 season so we're looking forward to seeing him back on the gridiron this fall. Early in his sophomore campaign, Jones saw playing time on both sides of the ball, including some significant playing time at cornerback early on in the year. But with Bixby needing a new starter at the running back position, that could open things up for Jones to step into that role. And when you look at his size, overall athletic ability and shiftiness in the open field, he's a really good fit for what Bixby likes to do with the running back position. He's pretty similar stature-wise to guys like Moll and Presley, who have exceeded at RB in this offense.

Broken Arrow running back [player_tooltip player_id='1828542' first='Corey' last='Sango Jr'] is a 2028 prospect that we first learned about around this time last year. He was the next up and coming running back in a very dangerous Broken Arrow offense. While the Tigers were missing their starter due to injury midway through the 2025 season, it was Sango that stepped into the role and really performed well. We were impressed with his game when we saw him in person last spring and then to see his production and overall performance against 6A-1 competition last fall, that added to our opinion and overall evaluation of him. Similar to Jones at Bixby, we think that Sango could end up taking a big step forward this season. He's a unique athlete that can be used in a few different ways.

During the latest ranking update for the state's 2028 class, we watched quite a bit of film of athletes all over. It's hard to find a better highlight tape than Tahlequah Sequoyah's [player_tooltip player_id='1838000' first='Ridge' last='Blackbear'] from last season. Blackbear was a new name for us during this update but his film was one of our favorites. This kid has to be one of the strongest running backs in the state, regardless of class. There are multiple plays where he looks bottled up in a swarm of three or four defenders and somehow comes out the other side. There are other plays where he is quite literally dragging defenders for up to five extra yards. Blackbear was incredibly productive in addition to being a player that embraces contact and looks to dish out as much punishment as possible.

We're buying stock now on Pryor running back [player_tooltip player_id='2124780' first='Khalil' last='Spurrier'] and you should too. We saw flashes last season of what Spurrier could do. He was a backup running back last season but because Pryor was so dominant, he actually saw quite a bit of playing time on Friday nights in the second half of games. We also got a chance to see Spurrier recently at our showcase camp in Broken Arrow. He was one of the top performers from the running back position. As Pryor works in a new quarterback this fall, we think that's going to open the door for Spurrier to get a decent workload at the running back spot. There's still plenty to learn about Spurrier and his overall game, but we can't help but be really impressed with what we've seen so far.
