Choctaw is your defending champion but the Yellowjackets have had their share of speed bumps along the way. They finished third in an absolutely brutal district and will host Putnam City North in the first round. Despite that, it wouldn't be surprising if the Yellowjackets went on a run to defend their title. Sand Springs and Stillwater are the two district champions heading into the postseason. The Pioneers have slipped up a couple times but they could very well be the most complete team in the Class 6A-2 playoff field. For Sand Springs, they've been knocking on the door of being a true state championship contender for the last several years and this might be the year that they kick the door down.

Then you have a handful of teams like Piedmont, Putnam City and Sapulpa that have all had their fair share of dominant moments this season but they've also tripped up at various times throughout the year. You could tell us that any of these three teams make a run to Edmond and after the way this season has played out, it wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world. Don't forget about Muskogee with Hall Of Fame coach Dale Condict. The Roughers have had an up and down year but they are not a team to overlook with the playoffs kicking off. Their first round opponent is Northwest Classen and the Knights are in the playoffs for the first time in nearly 60 years. Southmoore could be considered the dark horse of the 6A-2 playoffs because they have talented players capable of making noise. Bartlesville has another first round match-up with Piedmont and they'll be looking for different results.

Overall, Class 6A-2 is going to be a fun class to watch throughout the playoffs. The road to Edmond could go in many different directions.

TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] - Senior Quarterback - Putnam City

Putnam City senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] kicks off our players to watch and this is the time of the year where Turnbull shines. The senior signal caller spent his first three seasons as Millwood's starting quarterback and played in the state title game all three years. Simply put, he knows how to get to Edmond and compete for the gold ball. It's been a long time since the Pirates have played for it all but led by Turnbull and countless other standouts on both sides of the ball, this Putnam City team feels like one that has the best chance in recent memory to play for the state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] - Senior Quarterback - Sand Springs

As we mentioned earlier, perhaps this is the year where Sand Springs breaks through and captures that state championship. If the Sandites do that, senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] will have a significant influence on just that. For the last two seasons, Webb has been one of the best quarterbacks in the state. Last year, he was the Most Improved Player and he has Sand Springs playing some of their best football right now. While every other playoff team has had ups and downs over the last month, Webb and the Sandites are rolling into the playoffs as the top-ranked team with an eight game winning streak.

[player_tooltip player_id='1717575' first='Jayce' last='McIntosh'] - Senior Linebacker - Sapulpa

The Sapulpa Chieftains are certainly one of the teams to watch in the playoffs led by a very balanced squad. Leading the way on defense is senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1717575' first='Jayce' last='McIntosh'] and he leads the Chieftains in tackles. McIntosh and the Chieftains were dominant in district play and it all came down to a week ten clash with rival Sand Springs for the district title. Sapulpa came up short but they did get a first round bye and will await the winner of Choctaw and Putnam City North. If they get the defending champs, McIntosh and Sapulpa will be ready after falling to the Yellowjackets last year in the quarters.

[player_tooltip player_id='1555376' first='Jonston' last='Burke'] - Junior Quarterback - Ponca City

Ponca City has been in several high-scoring affairs this season led by junior [player_tooltip player_id='1555376' first='Jonston' last='Burke'] at the quarterback position. They put up 50+ points in six of their ten games this season and will look to continue that in the first round against Southmoore. Burke has been able to torch defenses throughout the year and the Wildcats come into the playoffs flying somewhat under the radar. Looking at this Ponca City offense, they have playmakers to make Burke look good. If Burke and this offense continue to play at a high level, they are going to be a difficult team to eliminate in November.

[player_tooltip player_id='891992' first='Kason' last='Delgado'] - Junior Quarterback - Muskogee

Muskogee junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='891992' first='Kason' last='Delgado'] has had some really strong performances this season. He joined the Roughers this summer and has had to earn his time on the field. Muskogee started the season with an 0-3 record but they've bounced back by going 5-2 over the last two months. And in those five wins, Delgado has really been able to unlock some things in this Muskogee offense. Based on talent alone, Delgado is certainly a player to keep an eye on moving forward. He has experience playing for several different teams and now looks to lead the Roughers in the playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1599209' first='Knoxtyn' last='Rallo'] - Sophomore Athlete - Piedmont

Piedmont made quite the statement a few weeks ago when they took down top-ranked Stillwater on their home turf. Sophomore standout [player_tooltip player_id='1599209' first='Knoxtyn' last='Rallo'] was a big part of that win on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he was a standout in the running game and defensively, he played lights out at one of the cornerback positions. Ask anyone around Piedmont about Rallo and they'll tell you that the ceiling for him as a prospect is incredibly high. If Rallo and the Wildcats get out of the first round, they'll have a showdown with top-ranked Sand Springs and an opportunity to make another statement.

[player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] - Senior Running Back - Choctaw

Defending champion Choctaw is not going to let go of the crown easily and this is a team that has the talent to capture another state championship. In our opinion, senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] is one of, if not the most important piece to the Yellowjackets. We've said this in the past but we think that Morgan is pound for pound the toughest running back and potentially the toughest player in the state. And the thing to keep in mind as we enter the playoffs is Morgan has a history of playing some of his best football in the biggest games of the season. That road to Edmond starts

[player_tooltip player_id='1167484' first='Michael' last='Kent'] - Sophomore Quarterback - Bartlesville

Bartlesville is playing with a lot of momentum after winning three of their last four and nearly winning four straight to punch their tickets to the playoffs. The Bruins have been going through growing pains this year but sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1167484' first='Michael' last='Kent'] has impressed from the start. Despite the early season losses, Kent was still producing at a high level in the pass and run game. He was keeping the Bruins in a lot of those games. Now, he'll look to continue that play in the first round as they square off with Piedmont in the first round for the second straight year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1179993' first='Nakwaine' last='Carter'] - Senior Defensive Lineman - Southmoore

Southmoore senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1179993' first='Nakwaine' last='Carter'] is one of the more disruptive players in the state. Southmoore went 5-5 on the season but this is still a very dangerous team and could make plenty of noise throughout the playoffs. The Sabercats will have to go on the road to take on Ponca City in the first round. And as we mentioned earlier, Ponca City has been very explosive on offense this season. If Carter and the Sabercat defense can shut down that Ponca City attack, they will not only get a first round win but they'll pick up a lot of momentum going into the quarterfinals.

[player_tooltip player_id='467410' first='Nehemiah' last='Kolone'] - Senior Defensive Lineman - Stillwater

We mentioned it earlier how Stillwater might be the most complete team in the 6A-2 playoffs. So when we have to spotlight one player, it's a tough proposal but we're going with senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='467410' first='Nehemiah' last='Kolone'] for what he brings to the defense. Kolone is one of the best edge rushers in the state and he leads a Stillwater defense that can absolutely take a game over. Kolone is one of the best defensive prospects in the state's 2026 class and he's certainly played like it. But like we said, Kolone is one of many Pioneer standouts that has Stillwater as one of the favorites to capture gold.

BIGGEST STORYLINE

6A-2 Is The Most Unpredictable Class

From 2014-2021, the Bixby Spartans had a stranglehold on the new Class 6A-2 after the state's largest class was split into two divisions. They won seven titles in eight years. In the three seasons since Bixby moved up to 6A-1, we've seen three different teams capture the state championship in Class 6A-2. Stillwater won it all in 2022, followed by Muskogee in 2023 and Choctaw captured gold last year. There's a solid chance we see this trend continue this season as Sand Springs comes into the playoffs as the top-ranked team and perhaps the Sandites are the next team to claim gold for the first time in a long time. But looking at 6A-2 as a whole, this class has been wildly unpredictable and it wouldn't be surprising if that is another trend that continues in the next month. For instance, in a three week stretch, Stillwater beat Putnam City, followed by Piedmont beating Stillwater, followed by Putnam City beating Piedmont. So when we look at all the different classes with the playoffs about to begin, we think that 6A-2 could be the most unpredictable and wide open class. But maybe that's par for the course when it comes to 6A-2. In the last three years, we've had three different state champions. Maybe we make it four for four in 2025.
