On tape we see that Bailey has a clear and distinct second gear when he hits the open field - a second speed that allows him to split cover 2 safeties up the middle. Strength and balance are a part of hims game, as you see arm tacklers simply fall off of him. Combine all this with his open field vision, and Bailey is a big play waiting to happen. On tape this manifests as him cutting back across the grain to bust open huge runs. Additionally, he has ball skills as we see Bailey receive the ball with his hands.

A corner that I am truly impressed with, [player_tooltip player_id='1057664' first='Braydon' last='Bonfig'] shows many desirable and sought-out traits on film that will allow him to compete for playing time early at the college of his choice. As a corner, Bonfig is really athletic and can move fluidly and quickly in each and every direction. I thought he also had a very disciplined approach to tackling, especially when taking into consideration his run fits. Knowing big hits are what make highlight plays, Bonfig does not haphazardly run around looking to light people up, but is more selective and smart when taking a chance to lay a big hit. Between his ability to hit and his ability to tackle, he does an outstanding job delivering his body to the ball carrier, either making immediate stops or dislodging the ball completely. His smarts translate to understanding and playing to Pennington's scheme as well. It appears that they play match coverage and Bonfig makes correct reads.

[player_tooltip player_id='1684616' first='Brendan' last='Roudi'], a big burly lineman out of the Shore Conference, does an outstanding job finishing his blocks as he looks to bury defenders in the ground. Blessed with long arms, we see Roudi effectively keep defenders at bay in pass protection; he has also shown to win hand combat. The film seems to show that Roudi is often trusted to lock on to his assignment. Speaking of his arms, Roudi will keep his hands in tight while keeping his feet moving to control his assignment and drive them off of the ball.

Already off to a strong start, [player_tooltip player_id='1430743' first='Brett' last='Kunkel'] has put plenty of good stuff of film that proves this is no coincidence. Kunkel is able to create separation on verticals, while the also being able to read defenses and snap off hard to return on a comeback route. Kunkel seems to understand that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor. I say this as it seems that Kunkel saves his top speed for the open field. A fundamentally-sound prospect, ball security is a top priority as he holds the ball high and tight; Kunkel also uses his hands exclusively to catch the ball. Selflessly, we see him grind his face off for his teammates when blocking for them along the perimeter.

In terms of prototypes, [player_tooltip player_id='1524452' first='Bryce' last='Clark'] might be the epitome of underneath slot players. What he lacks in size and stature, Clark makes up for in acceleration, fluidity, and quickness. To the naked eye, it seems as though Clark has a nose for the ball and is always around it. Clark is the type of player who can take a quick bubble or rocket, plant is foot in the ground, and gain a lot of yardage quickly. In the same breathe, he has the wiggle and low center of gravity to make him hard to square up. When defending, it seems that he can jump awfully high, which supports his ability to defend the pass. Lastly, on defense it seems that he understands his role and assignment, playing it with few hiccups.

A prospect who went on an unbelievable tear last season in terms of rushing the passer, [player_tooltip player_id='1264494' first='Camaj' last='Matthews'] is now donning the green and white of Winslow. Matthews has a clear burst and ability to close space in a hurry - closing speed. His burst of speed allows him to beat opponents off the edge as I did not note him taking the inside path at all. All the while not lost upon him is his ability to redirect. Matthews adjusts his path to the quarterback well when they step up or move the pocket, never seeming to lose contain. As he zeros in on his prey, we see him actively attack the ball in hopes to make a big play. Other than while attacking, Matthews' hands are involved in his pass rush, as he fights off those of his opponent to neutralize their rush. What is perhaps most impressive about his game, however, is that Matthews has showed a wide breadth of pass rush moves.

2027 Player Rankings Update Coverage

Breakout Candidates, Part I
Breakout Candidates, Part II
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part I
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part II
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part III
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part IV
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part V
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part VI
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part VII
Newly Ranked Prospects from the Watchlist, Part VIII
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part I
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part II
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part III
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part IV
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part V
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part VI
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part VII
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part VIII
Scouting Evaluation Notes, Part IX
Must-See Prospect Film, Part I
Must-See Prospect Film, Part II
Must-See Prospect Film, Part III
