Defensive coordinator Antonio Graham had been elevated to head coach following the retirement of Bill Blankenship. Graham and the Rams wasted no time putting the rest of the state on notice. They opened the season with a convincing win at home against the defending champion Spartans. The following week, they went on the road and took down Jenks. At that point, there was no doubt who the new favorite in Class 6A-1 was going to be. From there, the Rams would roll through the regular season. They dominated Union on the road and while they had some close calls late in the regular season, they would finish the regular season with a 10-0 record and a district championship. They took care of business in the quarterfinals and then would have a triple overtime thriller with Jenks in the semifinals. After the Trojans kicked a field goal, the Rams would rumble in for what was the game-winning touchdown, punching their ticket to Edmond. What awaited them? A rematch with those defending champions from Bixby. And the 6A-1 state title game was an absolute classic. A game that was back and forth and would go to overtime. Owasso scored first and kicked the extra point. Bixby scored and would go for two and the win. For the third straight year, Owasso's season came to an end with a loss to the Spartans.

2025 OUTLOOK

Just a few days after the Rams walked off the field in Edmond with the silver ball, the football program got shaken up again. Graham stepped down as head coach to take over the head coaching position at his alma mater, Union. Blankenship would come out of retirement and be named head coach of the Rams for a second tour of duty. Now the Rams, with a completely reshaped coaching staff, shift their attention to 2025 and making another run at that gold ball. The Rams have the potential to have one of the top offenses in the state in 2025. While they have to replace some massive pillars on the offensive line, they bring back their starting QB, arguably the best wide receiver trio in the state and two very productive running backs. Eight starters return on the offensive side of the ball and they certainly have the firepower to average north of 40 points per game once again. Defensively, it will be more of a rebuild for the Rams. They bring back only four starters on defense but the strength will come in the secondary and with arguably the most disruptive defensive tackle in the state. The Rams will lean on that big monster up front while the rest of the front seven grows up and gets experience. The Rams certainly haven't forgotten about how the 2024 season ended and they'll get their first shot at “payback” or “revenge” in the season opener. But the goal, as always, is to make a return trip to Edmond in December.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Blake Cherry - Offensive Lineman (Signed With Arkansas - All State 1st Team Selection)
Reese Satterwhite - Defensive Lineman (Signed With Lindenwood - All State Honorable Mention)
Ryker Haff - Offensive Lineman (Signed With OSU - All State 1st Team Selection)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Owasso offensive line in 2024 was arguably the best OL unit in school history. You don't lose two All State 1st Team selections and get better. But the Rams aren't rebuilding from zero in 2025. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='587268' first='Brooks' last='Barron'] is incredibly experienced and if he was on most other 6A-1 teams last season, he would be the foundation piece of that offensive line. So now, without those two D1 signees on the line of scrimmage, our attention shifts to Barron and he appears to be ready to lead this unit into the 2025 season. Barron has been projected as an interior offensive lineman for a few years now. He'll look to set the tone for an offense that can still light up the scoreboard.

Senior and Oklahoma State commit [player_tooltip player_id='402368' first='Carter' last='Langenderfer'] is definitely going to be a name to watch for the Rams this season, considering how young they are on the defensive side of the ball. Like we mentioned earlier, the Owasso defense is young but the secondary has a lot of talent returning and that conversation starts with the Oklahoma State commit. Langenderfer first got on our radar during the offseason before his junior season. He has climbed the charts and has become one of the top defensive backs in the state's 2026 class, and that's a very deep class. Langender will lead an experienced secondary into the 2025 season, looking to cause problems for opponents.

There aren't many quarterbacks in the state that have more momentum than junior signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1235926' first='Drew' last='Frankenfield'] right now. Last season, in his first year as QB1, Frankenfield came out of the gates swinging and left no doubt that he's the real deal at the quarterback position. This offseason, it's been well documented of his continued growth, both physically and as an overall player for the Rams. Last season, Frankenfield benefitted from having arguably the best offensive line in the state. This season, he'll benefit from having the best group of skill players in the state. Owasso's offense can light up the scoreboard this season and Frankenfield is the triggerman that makes it go.

(2024 All State Honorable Mention)

The last time we watched senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1549987' first='Jayden' last='Hall'] under the bright lights, he was having arguably the best performance of his career. Hall was outstanding in the state championship game and on the season, he finished with nearly 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns. Now, look for Hall to take his game up a notch. The Rams utilized three running backs throughout the 2024 season but now, Hall will be the marquee back, while splitting some carries with another back. Hall has gone from a nice productive back in the Owasso offense to one of the best running backs in the state's 2026 class and he's done it in a short amount of time.

(2024 All State Honorable Mention)

Senior defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id='1179991' first='Tajh' last='Overton'] is one of the top overall prospects in the state's 2026 class and last season, he earned All State 1st Team honors after being an absolute force in the middle of Owasso's defensive line. As we've mentioned, Owasso's defense is young but having a legitimate blue chip prospect setting the tone on the line of scrimmage will make everyone's job a little easier. Overton commands double teams and sometimes even that doesn't work. Anytime we've watched Overton in person, he always finds a way to impact the game as your prototypical next level defensive tackle. There's a reason why he has programs from all over the country coming after him.

(2024 All State 1st Team Selection)

Wide Receiver Trio Of [player_tooltip player_id='911962' first='Julius' last='Wilson'] [player_tooltip player_id='1570331' first='Noah' last='Hill'] & [player_tooltip player_id='1217089' first='Tahkari' last='Bethel']

In most previews, we'd try to limit this to just one wide receiver. But as we mentioned earlier, the Rams have a legitimate three-headed monster at wide receiver and arguably the best WR trio in the state. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='911962' first='Julius' last='Wilson'] [player_tooltip player_id='1570331' first='Noah' last='Hill'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1217089' first='Tahkari' last='Bethel'] all return and all bring something different to the table. Hill led the team in receiving last season. Bethel will be arguably the most electric playmaker in this Owasso offense between receiver and his ability as a kick returner. And Wilson is such an underrated athlete on the football field. These three combined for nearly 2,000 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns in 2024. That production could go up significantly in 2025.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Barrett Blankenship - 2028 Offensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='670655' first='Ben' last='Duggins'] - 2026 Defensive Lineman
Christian Collazo - 2026 Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1414201' first='Chris' last='Zaferes'] - 2026 Running Back
[player_tooltip player_id='696152' first='Cole' last='Campbell'] - 2027 Defensive Back
Colton Sudbeck - 2026 Tight End
[player_tooltip player_id='473722' first='Elien' last='Reagan'] - 2027 Offensive Lineman
Hunter Goodenow - 2027 Offensive Lineman
Ryder Karn - 2026 Linebacker
Sam Hoback - 2026 Defensive Back
Shawn Kellogg - 2027 Offensive Lineman

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - AT Bixby
- For the fourth straight year, the Rams will open the regular season against Bixby. In the last three years, they would end up meeting in the playoffs. The Rams won the regular season meeting a year ago but lost the championship rematch. Owasso will be hungry to erase memories of 2024's ending.
Sept. 5th - Jenks
- Owasso's home opener will come against the Jenks Trojans in week one. This is another team that the Rams met twice in 2024. They won the regular season meeting 42-24 and then had a rematch in the semifinals, where Owasso won 30-27 in triple overtime. These two are very familiar with one another.
Sept. 12th - Sand Springs
- Owasso will wrap up non-district play against Class 6A-2 contender Sand Springs. These two teams met last year for the first time in a little over a decade, with Owasso winning 48-17. They hadn't played each other since the split in Class 6A. Both offenses will be electric to watch in 2025.
Sept. 26th - AT Broken Arrow
- District play opens up in week three and on the road, against Broken Arrow. The Rams have won the last three games in the series but the Tigers have absolutely reloaded and, on paper, look like one of the best teams in Class 6A-1. The Rams prevailed at home 49-21 last season.
Oct. 3rd - Union
- The Rams return home in week five to square off with Union. For a while, the Redhawks owned this series but lately, it's been incredibly even. Owasso won 48-14 in their meeting last season. In the last ten meetings, both teams have a 5-5 record against one another.
Oct. 10th - AT Westmoore
- The second half of the regular season begins with a road trip to Moore as the Rams will take on Westmoore. This series has been completely one-sided and shows no signs of slowing down. The Rams beat the Jaguars 55-0 last season and will look to roll once again in week six.
Oct. 16th - Edmond Memorial
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Owasso will host Edmond Memorial. This will be a match-up of good on good as Owasso's high-powered offense will face Edmond Memorial's stingy defense. The Rams won 46-14 last season and have won the last three in this district series.
Oct. 24th - AT Edmond Santa Fe
- Owasso will had back to the west side of the state for a match-up against Edmond Santa Fe. The Rams would survive an upset scare from the Wolves last season, winning 31-27. Overall, the series has been one-sided but the last three meetings have been decided by six points or less.
Oct. 31st - Norman North
- The Rams will host Norman North in week nine and this is a match-up that has been a very high-scoring affair over the last few years, including last year, where Owasso would outlast Norman North 64-54. The Rams have won eight straight in the series with the Timberwolves.
Nov. 7th - AT Yukon
- The regular season comes to an end on the road in Yukon. Owasso beat the Millers 50-14 in the regular season finale a year ago. These two teams became district opponents in 2022 and before that, they hadn't played since 2009. In the last three meetings, Owasso has rolled to three wins.

NOTABLE

There is no doubt that this was the most chaotic offseason in terms of the coaches carousel in recent memory. It all began when Josh Blankenship stepped down as head coach at Broken Arrow. Then Kirk Fridrich steps down at Union, followed by Keith Riggs stepping down at Jenks and immediately getting replaced by defensive coordinator Adam Gaylor. And only a few days after Owasso lost to Bixby in the state title game, all eyes were on head coach Antonio Graham and whether he would return to his alma mater at Union to take over the Redhawk football program. And just moments after Union announced a press conference to introduce their new head coach, Owasso announced that Bill Blankenship was coming out of retirement to become head coach of the Rams. A few hours later, Graham was introduced as head coach at Union. Blankenship's retirement lasted one year and a couple days. Now, he's back as head coach of the Rams, his son, Josh is now the new offensive coordinator and the craziest coaches carousel we've ever witnessed finally came to an end with a lot of new (kinda) faces all over the Tulsa area.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 12-1 - Class 6A-1 Runner Ups
2023 - 9-3 - Lost In Class 6A-1 Semifinals
2022 - 9-5 - Class 6A-1 Runner Ups
2021 - 8-3 - Lost In Class 6A-1 Quarterfinals
2020 - 11-1 - Lost In Class 6A-1 Semifinals

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

2 State Championships

2019 - Beat Jenks 14-6
2017 - Beat Union 21-14
