This is already shaping up to be a special group after some standout freshman campaigns. In this latest update, we rounded up our ranked players to 25 and added over 50 new names to our list.   We have finally arrived at the final installment of our 2028 rankings update breakdown with the Top 5 prospects in the sophomore class. These guys possess all the tools to emerge as elite prospects.   Full rankings + watchlist: <a href="https://prepredzone.com/nebraska/rankings/2028-rankings/">HERE</a>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    <a href="https://x.com/Elibetz28" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Elibetz28)</a>   Elkhorn's [player_tooltip player_id='1573578' first='Eli' last='Betz'] holds on to the top overall spot in this update after posting great freshman tape and continuing that momentum with a strong track (shot put) season. Eli is a towering offensive tackle at 6'7", 280 pounds who catches your eye with his combination of size, mobility, power, and technique. Eli moves extremely well for his size, displaying natural footwork and the ability to execute pulling blocks with ease or climb to the second level to seal off LBs. He uses his leverage effectively and gains additional leverage through his smart hand placement when engaging with blockers. Smooth lateral mobility, especially in pass protection, where he cleanly progressed through his pass sets and could mirror defenders moving across the LOS. Betz also does a good job using his length to tame pass rushers by keeping them within his reach and not allowing them to beat him wide or cut inside. Good hip bend and consistent pad level through his reps. Eli has all the tools to develop into a national prospect and go wire-to-wire as #1!      <a href="https://x.com/CHiatt56" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@CHiatt56)</a>   Lincoln Christian's [player_tooltip player_id='1590682' first='Carter' last='Hiatt'] is a player who, in my opinion, is not receiving enough attention after a highly productive freshman season. Carter was second among freshmen in tackles with 92 total stops, four TFLs, and two sacks as one of the Crusaders' starting linebackers. Hiatt has great size that projects well to the next level with his sturdy 6'2", 215-pound frame. The biggest thing that stood out about Carter's game was how well he can fit into the run game by making quick reads, executing smart gap play, and possessing the speed to close on the ball in a flash. Carter displayed the power to take on and disengage with blockers, but also knows how to keep his jersey clean when scraping along the LOS. Hiatt's range also impressed with his ability to cover from sideline to sideline. Very physical tackler with the strength to knock back his opponents on contact. Keep a lookout for this standout prospect out of the state's Capitol!      <a href="https://x.com/_santiago_micah" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@_santiago_micah)</a>   Here's a prospect with the upside to eventually take over the top spot if he continues on this trajectory and has already started to garner collegiate attention. Bellevue West's [player_tooltip player_id='1590728' first='Micah' last='Santiago'] turned some heads earlier this summer after earning his first Power 4 offer from Iowa State and is likely only getting started. Micah is a game wrecker on the defensive line who can dominate from the interior by clogging up run lanes and collapsing the pocket. Santiago has a sturdy frame for a defensive tackle at 6'2", 300 pounds, playing with a strong base that makes him nearly impossible to move off his spot. Watching Micah's tape I was impressed with his freaky fast get off that helps him fire out of his stance and generate a good push at the snap. He also does a good job of being violent with his hands to rip away from linemen. Tracks the ball very well while engaged with opponents. Micah also stood out with his tireless pursuit and insane motor. Big time prospect with even bigger upside!      <a href="https://x.com/PaulHart2028" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@PaulHart2028)</a>   Keep an eye out for those Standing Bear Grizzlies, especially with prospects like TE/OLB [player_tooltip player_id='1573580' first='Paul' last='Hart'] on the roster! Starting, Hart has size that projects very well to the next level at 6'4", 215 pounds with the bigger-bodied frame to create mismatches at WR/TE and the athleticism to make him a key defensive chess piece. Offensively, I was impressed with Paul's inside-outside versatility, showing his ability to use his size to outjump and outphysical DBs along the perimeter, or he can use his quickness to beat slow LBs over the middle of the field. He's a solid route runner who can take advantage of spacing and can find the soft spots in coverage to give his QB an open target. Soft, reliable hands at the catch point with the strength to hold on through contact. Good run after the catch. Defensively, Paul is a well-rounded linebacker who can drift off into coverage or bring pressure coming off the edge. He has great instincts in coverage and is aggressive at attacking the ball. Massive upside prospect!      <a href="https://x.com/Gavin____White" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Gavin____White)</a>   Tape was limited for Gretna's [player_tooltip player_id='1591387' first='Gavin' last='White'], but the upside still popped through the screen! These types of players are no strangers to the Gretna Dragons, who have been on a great run of producing college-level prospects, especially on the offensive line! Gavin stands out immediately at 6'5" and 230 pounds with room to continue adding mass to his frame. His lengthy reach allows him to extend very well and make powerful contact with his initial jab. He has a strong, athletic base that helps him drive defenders off the ball while maintaining proper footwork and hip bend throughout his reps. Gavin brings quite the mean streak to the field with the competitive drive to finish his blocks in the dirt and play through the whistle. Lots of great reps on the defensive side of the ball as well.
