The Class of 2028 is shaping up to be a great one here in Nebraska, with a few players already earning their first offers and several more establishing themselves as stars. Below are a few players that I think are set to take off this fall!

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1590732' first='Riley' last='Swim'] is set to step into a good situation with his transition from Millard West to Omaha Westside. Riley should step in nicely into the Warriors' tight end position, where he will catch passes from 4-star QB Warren. Swim checks the measurables boxes for a tight end with a strong, sturdy frame at 6'4" and 215 pounds, with room to continue packing on some mass. Watching his tape, Riley stood out with his ability to attack the middle of the field, showing he can get open in the underneath zones and can even turn upfield to tack on some yards after the catch. He uses his length and catch radius to his advantage by making catches outside of his frame, and he has the hand strength to hold on to the ball through contact. Swim also proved to be an asset in the blocking game with his physicality in the run game, willingness to stay in pass protection, and can stack-and-release to catch defenses off guard.

Lincoln East's [player_tooltip player_id='2129146' first='Najee' last='Brown'] is an interesting player to watch out for as he possesses next-level measurables and a ton of untapped potential. Najee saw varsity reps at receiver and defensive back, finishing the year with 19 catches, 215 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns, 5 tackles, a TFL, a sack, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. At 6'5" and 185 pounds, Najee could be a matchup nightmare with his elite length and ability to elevate when attacking the ball. His long strides help him to get vertical in a hurry. On defense, Brown fits the mold of the "modern" DB prospect, with a rangy frame and top-tier athleticism. I can see him play anywhere along the secondary, with a well-rounded skill set that lets him drop into coverage, defend the run, and (as shown by his sack) blitz the QB. Excited to see more from Najee this year!

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1970032' first='Jackson' last='Gangwish'] has already established himself as a defensive star for the Crusaders, but he will have a chance to lead the offense as the likely QB1 this fall. Jackson had a monster season as part of a super stingy GICC defense, as he recorded 143 tackles, 21 TFLs, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Gangwish plays with a fiery motor and great instincts that allow him to react in a flash. He reads his keys very well and has a quick first step that helps him explode through his gaps. Gangwish tackles with great form and power when he gets to the tackler, allowing for a secure stop at the point of contact. Great range, going both from sideline-to-sideline and getting north-south depth in coverage. Jackson served as the backup QB on offense, where he had a small sample size but flashed a lot of upside with 29 of 47 completed passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns. From watching him on the field and at our showcases, he has the chance to really ball out with a live arm that can deliver the ball to all levels of the field. Solid ball placement and timing on his throws. Gangwish is also a threat on the ground after recording 30 carries for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Big season loading up for Gangwish and Co.

Bellevue West's [player_tooltip player_id='1570012' first='Caleb' last='Goodwater'] is another name to watch out for next season as he looks to win the starting QB spot. Caleb only attempted 33 passes as a sophomore, completing 21 for 126 passing yards. Despite the small sample size, Caleb has shown enough on the field to really get you excited about what he could do with the weapons on the Thunderbird offense. Caleb is a taller, athletic QB who can stand tall in the pocket, scan the defense, and make smart decisions with the ball. He has the arm to complete passes at all levels of the field. isn't necessarily a burner on the ground, but he has shown that he can use his legs to evade the pass rush, extend plays outside of the pocket, or even tuck it and run when needed. High ceiling player who should get his chance to shine this season!

The Central Eagles will lose a good chunk of production from last year's playoff team to graduation and transfers, but that should open the door for OLB/edge rusher [player_tooltip player_id='2132109' first='Eli' last='Pritchard'] to have a breakout campaign. Eli didn't see much of the field as a sophomore, recording 3 tackles, a TFL, and a forced fumble, but he has been working hard on his development this offseason. Eli has great size for the position at 6'3" and 190 pounds with room to continue filling out his frame. He uses his long reach, a quick first step, and closing speed to win around the edge and get to the ball carrier.
