There are not too many linebackers in the state of Nebraska in the 2028 class that already have Division 1 measurables and elite skillsets at their disposal like Lincoln Christian’s Carter Hatt has. The 6’2 230 pounder has boulder strength that still shows the locks of agility with his hands getting off blocks and always seems to be right where he ends to be from a timing perspective to make a physical tackle. He’s a hole-eater when it comes to stuffing the running game and does so with downhill penetration. Carter was an Oliver West favorite at the NDSU Indy Camp over the summer that like me feels its hard to miss Carter from the eye-test. Don’t be surprised if Carter is an early offer kid in this 2028 class upcoming.

Amongst a physically impressive group(s) of LBs at NDSU’s FBS Camp #1, Lincoln, Nebraska product and Lincoln Christian High School rising junior Carter Hiatt still remained a First Team All-Eye Test selection. Hiatt, especially for his age, was a walking refrigerator of a linebacker, filled out very well with big hands and feet and an equally bulky upper and lower body. Despite the size, Hiatt could move, and he was nimble, with the ability to flip hips, work laterally and start/stop smoothly, and run hoop as well. With little wasted movement, Hiatt was impressive in coverage, as he could flip his hips and accelerate, drop his hips and mirror route runners with patience, and of course, play with physicality. I was impressed by the deep speed in coverage as well. No wonder this Hiatt is so highly-touted as a Nebraska 2028.

Carter was second among freshmen in tackles with 92 total stops, four TFLs, and two sacks as one of the Crusaders’ starting linebackers. Hiatt has great size that projects well to the next level with his sturdy 6’2″, 215-pound frame. The biggest thing that stood out about Carter’s game was how well he can fit into the run game by making quick reads, executing smart gap play, and possessing the speed to close on the ball in a flash. Carter displayed the power to take on and disengage with blockers, but also knows how to keep his jersey clean when scraping along the LOS. Hiatt’s range also impressed with his ability to cover from sideline to sideline. Very physical tackler with the strength to knock back his opponents on contact. Keep a lookout for this standout prospect out of the state’s Capitol!
