On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 I was personally invited back for the third consecutive year by Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Football Coach Anthony Van Curen to cover his Football Mega Camp. With many other universities now following suit with mega camps of their own, Van Curen's is the O.G. in the area and, quite frankly, everyone is just biting off his style. However, at this point the term “mega” is probably an understatement to describe his event.

In what I would consider more of a celebration of the game, between the 560+ prospects registered, 100+ college coaches watching, clinicians, parents, and high school staffs there were literally around 1000 people coming out to compete, make connections, and enjoy an evening sample taste of football. As has become the norm for Van Curen's baby, the event was organized, structured, ran well, and was highly competitive.

In addition to eyeing prospects up, measuring their combine performances (40-yard dash, Pro Agility, Broad Jump), I was fortunate enough to receive unimpeded access to the grounds to evaluate and scout the talent on hand. In this article, I share my notes for the position group mentioned in its title.

I got a real good look-see at Montville's [player_tooltip player_id='606194' first='Jackson' last='Gering'] - walking away thoroughly impressed. Gering looked amongst this camp's most poised quarterbacks as he was confident with his throws, hand command of his partnered receiver, and was unrattled by the presence of about 1,000 people all around him. Gering delivered a bomb right into his receiver's bread basket from about 45 yards out and proved that he led his receivers well on vertical routes. On other routes - out routes in particular - I thought that he needed to get the ball out a bit quicker by anticipating their break... Although I got an opportunity to dap him and some of his Don Bosco teammates up prior to competition, I only got one solid look at [player_tooltip player_id='121685' first='Dylan' last='Wrona']. Wrona threw an absolute dart on an out route. This throw was on a rope, whistled, and led his receiver perfectly in a safe place where it led to an uncontested throw.

The future might just be the present at Red Bank Catholic. Rising junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1574482' first='Jake' last='Garrett'] looks poised to push for a starting role this season. Garrett got really good loft on the ball when necessary. A case-and-point example of this was where he identified a size advantage his receiver possessed. Garrett then proceeded to pin-point a lofted ball on the top-shelf where only his receiver was able to get it. I would consider this 2027 quarterback one of the more accurate quarterbacks in attendance; however, Garrett would be better served by activating his lower half to get more drive and power on his throws... It was great to see an old mentee of mine getting a fresh start at a new school. [player_tooltip player_id='1183269' first='Leo' last='Lin'], now with Hudson Catholic, apparently has a job that is his to lose as the Hawks' former starter, Kyle Mercorell, has transferred for the third time in three years - this time out of state to avoid sitting out due to NJSIAA transfer rules. Although I would like to see a bit more of a quicker release from Lin, I loved his competitive spirit and nature. Correctly reading and judging the defending linebacker's aggressive nature, Lin lofted a beautiful ball over his head and right into the hands of his target. As he walked that off, I caught Lin jawing a bit to that linebacker, essentially saying "do not try undercutting my throws." An unconventional approach for a quarterback, perhaps he is a bit Lin-sane in the membrane.

From one non-public school to another, Immaculata sent - perhaps - their quarterback of the future in [player_tooltip player_id='1165643' first='Jaime' last='Marin III']. Their is much opportunity for this rising sophomore's game to improve as he prepares to push for a role on varsity. As he works and grinds, Marin would benefit from improving his mechanics in his lower half. As he does this, he will be less reliant on having to load up on deeper throws. As such, he will also get more velocity on his throws and they will be more accurate.
