Graduation will hit the Cherokee County schools hard this Spring at the QB spot. I take a look at the returning QB position at each school with a guess at potential replacements at QB1 and an eye on the top returning starters.

Cherokee Warriors

The QB1 spot is wide open this Spring at Cherokee. [player_tooltip player_id='942506' first='Tanner' last='Savasir'], moving on to Berry College in the Fall, took all the snaps at QB last season for the Warriors. He accounted for over 3100 yards in total offense with 26 combined TDs in 2024. Savasir was a 3-year starter at Cherokee and will be big shoes to fill. He accounted for over 7000 yards and 62 TDs over the last 3 years. PRZ will keep a close eye on Cherokee this Spring to see who steps up into that QB1 role.

Creekview Grizzles

Creekview is another school that will be replacing a veteran producer at the QB1 spot. 3-year starter [player_tooltip player_id='411240' first='Austin' last='Guest'] will graduate this Spring after accounting for over 7500 yards with 68 TDs in those seasons. '26 ATH Alex Penrod (6'0 170) took a few snaps over the last few seasons and has been efficient throwing 3 TDs in 11 attempts. Penrod was at out latest Combine and showed some skill at the WR spot. He showed could quickness and route running ability and could make a big go to target for the Grizzles at the wideout spot. '27 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1258733' first='Frank' last='Young'] (6'1 190) has been impressive at our Combine over the last 2 seasons. He is comfortable in the pocket and has some nice velocity on his throws. Young will get his chance this Spring/Summer to earn that QB1 spot.

Etowah Eagles

The Eagles had a tough season last year going 2-8 and will have a new man in charge in '25 in former Sprayberry Head Coach Brett Vavra. He will have a nice returning starter to work with in '27 [player_tooltip player_id='1609973' first='Zeke' last='Douglass'] (6'2 185). Vavra proved at Sprayberry that he knew how to use a dual threat QB and Douglass fits that mold. He ran one of the fastest overall 40 times at our January Combine. Douglass is not only a runner, he has some pop on his passes and the ability to throw on the run. In this system I think this rising Junior QB has the potential to be the Cherokee County breakout player of the year in '25.

River Ridge Knights

The Knights will be looking to replace Reinhardt commit [player_tooltip player_id='1566593' first='Ethan' last='Spector'] this Spring/Summer. He has accounted for over 6300 yards with 74 TDs as River Ridge's starter over the last 3 seasons. Not very many QBs have gotten snaps over the last 3 seasons outside of Spector but '27 Hunter Lockerman (6'0 170) has had a few opportunities at the varsity level and looks to be the front runner headed into the off season. A tough kid that has shown his potential as a dual threat for the Knights. He has completed 8 of his 14 attempts and rushed for 64 yards on 4 carries with 2 TDs in limited action. The rising Junior was a starter on defense this past season, recording 42 TT with an INT.

Sequoyah Chiefs

The Chiefs have the best backfield duo returning in the County in '25, led by 3 year starting '26 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1565843' first='Kolby' last='Martin'] (6'0 183). Martin was one of the most efficient passers in the State last season only throwing 3 INTs 239 attempts. A dual threat that passed for over 2300 yards and rushed for close to 4 ypc, leading Sequoyah to the 3rd Rd of the State Playoffs. Martin debuted in the most recent Prep Redzone 2026 rankings and his stock will only climb higher. The Chiefs, as a team, are poised for a big 2025 season and Martin has the talent to make a name on the Statewide scale this Fall.

Woodstock Wolverines

The Wolverines had one of the more "surprising" seasons last year going 7-3 during the regular season behind '27 [player_tooltip player_id='1544914' first='Graham' last='Burmeister'] (6'1 205). The dual threat QB had an outstanding Sophomore season throwing for 2057 yards and rushing for close to 500 yards with 22 total TDs. A natural QB that has a great pocket presence and is not easily rattled. He shows enough foot speed to be dangerous when he is flushed out of the pocket and has to run. He caught the attention of the Redzone staff last season and his stock will only continue to rise.
