Today, it's time to take a look at the best of the best in Oklahoma with our ten finalists for 2024 PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year. Finalists are decided based on several factors, including overall production, impact on the game and much more. This is the fifth season for Prep Redzone Oklahoma and this is our breakdown on the ten finalists, as well as a look back at the previous finalists and the winners. The winner of this year's award will be announced later this month. Stay locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for that announcement, as well as a post coming later today, where you can vote for your pick for PRZ-Oklahoma Fan's Choice Player Of The Year. We'll also have a ton of postseason content continuing to drop every day on Prep Redzone Oklahoma. And for highlights and interviews with all ten finalists, be sure to follow us @PrepRedzoneOK

2024 PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

[player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Tuttle

Tuttle senior [player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] is our first finalist on this breakdown and he impacted the game in just about every way you can do so. Offensively, McAdoo was one of the team's top targets in the passing game with 38 catches for nearly 800 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had five rushing touchdowns in short yardage situations. Defensively, McAdoo finished with nearly 50 tackles and a pair of interceptions. And then in special teams, the Tuttle senior would take four punts back for touchdowns this season and he was one of the state's best punters. But Tuttle was absolutely dominant all season and he was not used all that often in punting situations. He was a complete player for the Tigers as they made a run to the Class 4A state championship game. That game didn't end the way they'd like but it was a terrific season for McAdoo and the Tigers. He's been a player on our radar for a while now but it all came together this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='353419' first='Caden' last='Davis'] - Senior Linebacker - Carl Albert

Carl Albert senior [player_tooltip player_id='353419' first='Caden' last='Davis'] is the first of five state champions on this breakdown. Davis has been about as valuable as it gets to the success at Carl Albert during this run of three consecutive state championships. This season, Davis did it on both sides of the ball as a linebacker on defense and a short yardage running back on offense. Defensively, Davis led the team with over 150 tackles and nearly 30 tackles for loss with eight sacks. This season, he broke the school's all time tackle record that has stood for decades. Offensively, Davis would add 12 touchdowns on the ground as the Titans rolled to another state championship. Davis came into this season as a two-time All State 1st Team selection and later this month, he will make his third appearance on the All State 1st Team and that puts him in very rare company. This season, he led a Carl Albert defense that definitely has an argument for being the best overall unit in the state in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='255022' first='Cooper' last='Parker'] - Senior Quarterback/Linebacker - Bixby

We've been in business for five seasons and for five seasons, Bixby has had a finalist for the state's top player. That should come as no surprise considering the success of this Spartan program over the last decade. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='255022' first='Cooper' last='Parker'] is the latest Spartan to earn this honor following a terrific 2024 season, capped off with another state championship. Parker led the Bixby defense with 110 tackles on the year and nine tackles for loss. Offensively, he ended up leading the team in rushing from the quarterback position and would even line up at running back throughout the 2024 campaign. He finished the year with over 700 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground. But Parker's biggest play came on the final play of the year. In overtime against Owasso in the 6A-1 title game, Bixby elected to go for the win and Parker took a direct snap and scampered into the end zone to deliver Bixby their seventh straight gold ball and tenth in school history.

[player_tooltip player_id='353415' first='Elijah' last='Thomas'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Checotah

Checotah senior [player_tooltip player_id='353415' first='Elijah' last='Thomas'] was an absolute monster all season and he was a big reason why the Wildcats had arguably their best season in recent memory. The numbers are one thing but he helped carry Checotah from the four seed to one game shy of playing in the Class 3A state championship game. Thomas finished the year with over 70 catches and over 1,800 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also had over 400 yards and ten touchdowns rushing throughout the season. Defensively, he had over 80 tackles and four interceptions with one kick return that he took back for another score, giving him 37 total touchdowns on the year. Thomas was absolutely unstoppable and when the Wildcats needed him the most, he showed up and delivered. In the quarterfinals against Bristow, Checotah trailed with under a minute to play but Thomas took a little screen pass 75 yards for a score to put Checotah into the 3A semifinal round.

[player_tooltip player_id='211556' first='Jamarian' last='Ficklin'] - Senior Quarterback - Muskogee

For the second straight year, Muskogee quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='211556' first='Jamarian' last='Ficklin'] finds himself as one of the very best players in the state of Oklahoma. Ficklin is a finalist for Player Of The Year for the second straight year after leading the Roughers to an unbeaten regular season and another trip to the state championship game. This season, Ficklin threw for well over 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also added nearly 700 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. But an underrated part about Ficklin's game that hasn't been discussed enough was his work at safety. Ficklin made some big plays on the defensive side of the ball throughout the 2024 season, including in the state championship game, on the biggest stage. For his career, Ficklin is one of a handful of quarterbacks in state history with over 10,000 passing yards and over 100 touchdowns. He won a lot of games as QB1 of the Roughers, including the school's first state title in nearly four decades in 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] - Junior Running Back - Vian

Vian's [player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] is one of two juniors that ended up on this breakdown following a memorable 2024 campaign. The Wolverines were outstanding all year and made it all the way to the state championship game. They came up short to traditional power Davis but Wright was still without a doubt one of the best players in Oklahoma this season. On the year, Wright finished with over 2,100 yards on just 181 carries and 36 touchdowns. He also had over 200 receiving yards and four touchdowns. As we've mentioned (what feels like) multiple times this season, Wright had not one, but multiple games where the majority of times he touched the ball, he would end up in the end zone. Whether that was as a running back, receiver, kick returner or on defense, he had a nose for the end zone and was without a doubt one of the state's top playmakers in the state of Oklahoma. And Wright will be back in 2025, hungry to finish what they started in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] - Senior Tight End - Washington

Washington senior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] doesn't have the numbers that some of the finalists have but anyone who has watched Roberts over the last two seasons would agree that he's one of the best football players in Oklahoma. He plays a position at tight end that simply doesn't have as much of a statistical impact but he has been considered the state's top overall prospect in the 2025 class and that's a position that he's battling Thomas for in our final 2025 ranking update in February. Roberts finished his senior season with 52 catches for just under 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. He's been a critical part of their three consecutive state championships and has also had a significant role in nearly all of their 44 consecutive victories. Roberts caught at least one touchdown in all three of those championship wins and the touchdowns in the 2022 and 2024 title games would end up providing the difference in the game for the Warriors.

[player_tooltip player_id='587262' first='Ricklan' last='B Holmes II'] - Junior Running Back/Linebacker - Del City

After making a run to the 5A title game in 2023, we thought Del City might take a step back after losing a special and talented senior class. We were wrong. The Eagles were arguably the second best team once again in Class 5A and made it to the semifinals before losing to rival Carl Albert. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='587262' first='Ricklan' last='B Holmes II'] was a big reason why the Eagles remained in contention this season. He took his game up several levels and became arguably the best two-way player in the state. Defensively, he was an absolute monster from his linebacker position. He finished the year with over 150 tackles, 17 sacks and scored multiple touchdowns off fumble recoveries and interceptions. Offensively, Holmes also chipped in as a running back, finishing the year with nearly 1,000 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns. Holmes elevated his game to becoming one of the best overall players in Oklahoma and he'll be back, looking for more in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='211570' first='Tres' last='Lorah'] - Senior Quarterback - Elgin

It was a season to remember for Elgin as the Owls captured their first state championship in school history. And it was a special season for senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='211570' first='Tres' last='Lorah'] as he rewrote the record book at Elgin. He became the school's all time leading passer and coincidentally, he broke his older brother's records with the school so he's going to have some bragging rights for a while to go along with the hardware. This season, Lorah threw for just under 2,700 yards and 34 touchdowns. He led an Elgin offense that was one of the best and balanced units in the state. The Owls could beat defenses with either the pass or the running game and Lorah was the steady presence throughout their undefeated season. They captured the 4A state championship in a memorable win over Tuttle. You could pick several players off this team that could be in this spot but we're going with Lorah because of the impact he's had for several years now.

[player_tooltip player_id='806158' first='Trey' last='Bennett'] - Senior Quarterback/Defensive Back - Woodland

Our last finalist is Woodland senior quarterback and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='806158' first='Trey' last='Bennett'] after he helped lead Woodland to an unbeaten season and a state championship. The Cougars were our preseason number one team back in June so the target couldn't have been bigger throughout the season but Bennett and this team never flinched and never backed down from a challenge. On offense, Bennett would throw for over 2,300 yards and 33 touchdowns while also adding nearly 400 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. And Woodland was absolutely dominant this season so in just about every game, Bennett was done by halftime and only played in two quarters tops. Defensively, the Woodland standout also had 30 tackles and five interceptions from his safety position, returning one of them for a score. Similar to all the players on this breakdown, Bennett routinely saved his best performances for the games against the top competition.

2023 PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

Andy Bass (Winner) -
