As we get deeper into the month of November, another regular season of high school football in the state of Kentucky has come and gone. With that being said, I wanted to acknowledge some of the top performers in each class before we get deeper into the playoffs. Over the past couple weeks, I have been releasing my 2024 Regular Season All-State teams in each class. After already covering classes 2A-6A, I will now turn my attention to class 1A, starting with the offensive side of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='373049' first='Luke' last='Pennington'] has continued to establish himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the entire state this season. He had an outstanding senior regular season, completing 139/169 passes for 2,042 yards, 38 touchdowns, and no interceptions in 10 games. Pennington throws an impressive deep ball, using his arm strength to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride. He has also shown impressive accuracy, putting the ball where only his intended receiver has a chance to catch it. Luke also finished the regular season with three rushing touchdowns. Pennington is committed to Dayton where I could see him being their quarterback of the future.

[player_tooltip player_id='1584336' first='DJ' last='Wren'] is a player who jumped onto my radar with a strong junior season. He finished the regular season as the 1A rushing leader, carrying the ball 197 times for 1,353 yards and 15 touchdowns in nine games. Wren is a strong runner, showing the ability to keeps his legs churning while maintaining his balance to break tackles without losing stride. He has also shown the speed to run away from the defense on long runs once he hits the open field. Wren also finished the regular season with one receiving touchdown, returned one kickoff for a touchdown, and made an impact on defense, accounting for 75 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one interception which he returned for a touchdown. DJ doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on heading into his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='373048' first='Brock' last='Coffman'] has shown that he is one of the most talented players in the entire state this season. Coffman finished the regular season as the 1A receiving leader with 65 catches for 1,082 yards and 19 touchdowns in 10 games. Brock has explosive speed which he is able to use to blow by opposing defensive backs with ease in the deep passing game. He is also dangerous in the open field after the catch, showing the speed and elusiveness to turn short passes into big gains at any given moment. Coffman also finished the regular season with two punt returns for touchdowns and played a key role on defense at defensive back, accounting for 36 tackles, three tackles for loss, and four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). Brock is committed to Ohio where I can see him being an immediate contributor once he gets there.

[player_tooltip player_id='378830' first='Gavin' last='Johnson'] continued to establish himself as one of the best players in the state in his class this season. He had a very impressive sophomore regular season, catching 80 passes for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games. Johnson has a high catch radius, showing the ability to go up and catch the ball at its highest point, regardless of the coverage around him. He also has shown the speed to pose as a deep threat and to pick up yards after the catch. Gavin also finished the regular season with two rushing touchdowns, one kickoff return for a touchdown, 50 tackles, and two interceptions. Osborne also finished the regular season with one punt return for a touchdown and made an impact on defense with 17 tackles and two interceptions (both returned for touchdowns). Keegan runs routes like a true receiver, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. He also has strong hands which he uses to bring in passes through contact. Farrell has also made an impact on defense at linebacker, finishing the regular season with 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception. Crawley lines up at right guard where he is very impressive as a run blocker. He is very explosive out of his stance and does a great job of keeping his feet churning through contact to drive his man several yards down the field. Crawley also does a great job of getting to the second level with a sense of urgency and destroying any defender in his path in the open field on long runs.
To wrap up my 1A Regular Season All-State Offense, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1176968' first='Will' last='Sandfoss']. Sandfoss has shown the versatility to play both tackle spots but has mainly played on the left side this season. Will is an impressive run blocker, showing the ability to drive his man down the field and finish his blocks through the whistle with a ton of physicality, resulting in frequent pancake blocks. He is also very reliable in pass protection, showing the footwork to mirror opposing pass rushers along with the strong base to not allow much penetration into the pocket. Sandfoss currently holds an offer from Georgia State and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the next level.
