It's the month of October and that means it's time for a prospect ranking update! Throughout this month, we'll be updating each class ranking and following up those updates with in-depth breakdowns on a ton of prospects in each class. This week, we kicked things off with the 2028 watchlist! Now, because these are just freshmen that are just halfway into their first varsity season, this is just a watchlist. Our first ranking of the 2028 class will come after the season when we have a full body of work to go off of. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at five freshmen that might not be getting as much playing time as some of the other 2028 prospects but it's only a matter of time before they impact the varsity level in a major way.

Out of the five prospects on this breakdown, Bixby running back [player_tooltip player_id='589663' first='Brian' last='Jones Jr.'] is the only one that has seen significant playing time at the varsity level this season. At least that's time that we can track the numbers. Jones is the first of two Bixby Spartans on this breakdown and we're looking forward to seeing where he ends up within this class. Jones has gotten playing time this season in a very crowded Bixby backfield. In fact, in their season opener against Owasso, Jones was getting touches on the opening series of the game. He's currently fourth on the team in rushing but when he's gotten into the game, you can see that there's definitely a lot to like.

Our only defensive prospect on this breakdown is another Bixby Spartan. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1167272' first='Cimone' last='Smitherman'] is a player that we've liked for a while now after having him at a few of our PRZ-Next camps in the offseason. Smitherman looks the part already from a physical standpoint and his overall ceiling looks like it's incredibly high as long as he continues to progress and improve his overall athleticism. And the thing that has us the most excited about his future potential is the program he's in. Bixby produces linebackers that play at a high level better than almost any other program in the state. Smitherman could be the next guy up for the Bixby backers.

Like Jones at Bixby, Washington freshman running back [player_tooltip player_id='474035' first='Josiah' last='Dickerson'] has gotten into the game for the Warriors this season but it's almost exclusively when the game is wrapped up. The Warriors have a senior starting at running back and a few other seniors that share the backfield so the carries have been somewhat limited for this freshman. But Dickerson is a 2028 prospect that we think will absolutely blow up when he gets his number called. He's similar to Jones in size but he's built like an absolute cannon ball and can fly when he gets into the open field. There is a lot to like here with Dickerson and when he gets his opportunity, he's going to run with it, literally.

Jenks freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='485894' first='Maddox' last='Young'] was a 2028 signal caller that we saw quite a bit this offseason. From the 7v7 circuit to our PRZ-Next camp in April, Young really impressed us with his ability to throw the ball all over the field. In the spring, Young went back to Jenks from Victory Christian and is now patiently waiting for his opportunity to perform on the varsity level. He's been playing at the sub-varsity level throughout the fall and he's looked impressive. But when it comes down to it, it's going to be about what he can do against other varsity competition. He had a terrific offseason when we watched him in person. If he carries that momentum through the fall, he'll be in a good spot.

Norman North quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522514' first='Nash' last='Henry'] looks to be the next guy up at Norman North once Eshelman graduates. Having an opportunity to sit behind and learn from a D1 commit is invaluable experience for Henry and it just raises his overall potential moving forward. Henry is a prospect that has a very high ceiling and he was definitely in the conversation of quarterbacks that we knew about coming into this season. He's another prospect that came to one of our PRZ-Next camps in the offseason and you can tell that he has put a lot of work in. The ball comes out and it comes out in a hurry. Like Young, Henry is a QB prospect that is patiently waiting for his turn on Friday nights.
