As we enter the month of October, we have reached the halfway point in the 2024 high school football regular season in the state of Kentucky. With that being said, I wanted to take a look back at some of the top players of the first half by releasing my Midseason All-State teams in each class. After covering classes 2A-6A, I will now turn my attention to class 1A, starting with the offensive side of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='373049' first='Luke' last='Pennington'] is a player who came into this season with high expectations and he has lived up to them so far. He is off to a strong start to his senior year, completing 82/108 passes for 1,177 yards, 23 touchdowns, and no interceptions in six games. Pennington had a strong arm which he uses to stretch the field in the deep passing game. He has also shown the ability to escape the pocket when needed while keeping his eyes down the field to complete passes on the run. Luke had also scored two rushing touchdowns so far this season. Pennington is committed to Dayton where I can see him becoming their quarterback of the future.

[player_tooltip player_id='773246' first='Wyatt' last='Simons'] made the transition to running back for his junior year and he is thriving in his new position so far. Through seven games, Simons is the 1A leading rusher with 143 carries for 1,008 yards and 14 touchdowns. Simons is a hard runner, showing the ability to keep his legs churning through contact to break tackles without losing stride. He has also shown the speed to break away on long runs. Simons has also made an impact on defense this season at linebacker, leading his team with 65 tackles. Wyatt doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on over the next couple seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='373048' first='Brock' last='Coffman'] is a player who has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to impress this season. He is off to a very strong start to his senior season, catching 41 passes for 631 yards and 13 touchdowns in six games. Coffman has shown the ability to create separation from opposing defensive backs with ease, using his speed to pose as a deep threat and quick breaks in his routes to find openings in the defense. He is also dangerous after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes into big gains. Coffman has also returned one punt for a touchdown and has made an impact on defense, accounting for 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) so far. Brock currently holds several Division I/Power 4 offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a high-caliber prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='378830' first='Gavin' last='Johnson'] is another player who has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to stand out this season. Through seven games, Johnson is the leading receiver in 1A with 55 receptions for 747 yards and eight touchdowns. Gavin is a dangerous deep threat, showing the speed to create separation while also showing the athleticism and hands to go up and catch passes at their highest point in contested jump ball situations. He is also electric after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes and screens into big gains. Johnson has also scored two rushing touchdowns and returned one kickoff for a touchdown this season. He is also an impressive defensive back, accounting for 34 tackles and one interception so far this season. Gavin doesn't currently hold any offers but he has received some college interest and should be a player to continue to watch over the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1576968' first='Nick' last='Osborne'] is a player who has caught my attention with a strong start to his senior season. Through seven games, Osborne is his team's leading receiver with 22 catches for 482 yards and eight touchdowns. Osborne is dangerous with the ball in his hands in the open field, showing the speed and elusiveness to break away for a big play at any given moment. He has also shown the ability to use his speed to pose as a threat in the deep passing game. Nick has also scored one rushing touchdown, returned one punt for a touchdown, and has played a key role on defense with 14 tackles and two interceptions returned for touchdowns so far.
[player_tooltip player_id='1314810' first='Max' last='Hunt'] jumped onto my radar this offseason and has continued to impress during his sophomore season. He currently leads his team in receiving with 13 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown. Hunt is an impressive route runner, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. He has also shown the ability to use his speed and strength as a ball carrier in the open field to pick up extra yards after the catch. Hunt has also made an impact on defense this season with 14 tackles and one sack so far. Max currently hold an offer from Kentucky and I expect more to come his way as he continues to develop.

[player_tooltip player_id='735994' first='Xavier' last='Crawley'] is a player who has been on my radar for a while now and has continued to stand out this season. He lines up at right guard where he is dominant as a run blocker. Crawley explodes out of his stance and drives his man down the field with ease. He finishes his blocks with a ton of physicality, resulting in frequent pancake blocks. Crawley also does a great job of getting to the second level quickly and picking up blocks in open space. Xavier doesn't currently hold any offers but I expect some to come his way soon as he has received a lot of college interest and has the talent to play at the next level.

To wrap up my Midseason 1A All-State Offense, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1176968' first='Will' last='Sandfoss']. Will lines up mainly at left tackle but has shown the versatility to play both tackle spots. He is very reliable in pass protection, showing the footwork to mirror opposing pass rushers off the edge and the strong base to not allow much penetration into the pocket. Sandfoss is also impressive as a run blocker, showing the ability to drive his man down the field with ease. Will doesn't currently hold any offers but he has received some college interest and should be a player to keep an eye on over the next two years.
