We expected big things from 2028 Pendleton County RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='951269' first='Colton' last='Roberson'] at this level but the young athlete has exceeded those expectations already in game one of his high school career earning our week one PRZ WV Offensive Player of the Week. The Wildcats got the big win over Greenbrier West who played for a state championship in 2023 in large part due to Roberson's efforts on Friday night. The freshman was all over the field on both sides of the ball rushing for 145 yards and totaling 202 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns with 8 tackles on defense. Roberson certainly didn't look like a freshman out there and showed fluid athletic ability and natural playmaking skills regardless of where he lined up.

2025 Man LB [player_tooltip player_id='1126299' first='Dusten' last='Baisden'] earns our week one PRZ WV Defensive Player of the Week with an impressive performance against rival Logan. The Hillbillies' defense forced 8 turnovers in the 13-7 defensive struggle with Baisden earning one of them on an interception. He also totaled 15 tackles in the game and sacked the Wildcats' quarterbacks twice in a hard-fought week one victory. Baisden also led Man in rushing with 39 hard-earned yards during the game. The two-way player showed tremendous effort on film on both sides of the ball with good pursuit speed to the ball. Even as an undersized linebacker, Baisden was stout when playing near the line of scrimmage and made plays in space in the run and passing game.

The premier small school player in the state this season 2025 Wahama RB [player_tooltip player_id='907169' first='Connor' last='Lambert'] got off to a hot start in the White Falcons' big week one win over East Hardy. Lambert had as good of a start to the game as you can have for a running back ripping off touchdown runs of 78 and 79 yards on his first two carries of the night. He averaged your "standard" 26 yards per carry on just 11 touches and scored 4 times in the 45-14 win. The limited touches in week one should benefit Lambert in week two in the biggest Class A Game of the Week against Doddridge County where he may need to carry a heavier load in a fight to determine the early season top dog in the class.

One of the top quarterbacks in Class A this season will be 2025 Tyler Consolidated QB [player_tooltip player_id='1052861' first='Brady' last='Strode'] who began his senior season with a big stat line against Ritchie County. Strode flashed his athleticism throughout the game in a variety of ways returning a kick, catching a 2-point conversion, and playing safety on defense. He looked great at quarterback though and did a nice job improvising when needed on scrambles and throwing well on rollouts. All told, Strode finished the night with 228 passing yards and 4 touchdowns with 43 more coming on the ground.

2025 Tucker County RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1092726' first='Jared' last='Reall'] appears to be continuing the great success he had as a junior for the Mountain Lions with a dominant week one performance against Pocahontas County. The talented two-way player made his usual impact on both sides of the ball with 12 carries for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns on offense and 14 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 1 fumble recovery on defense. Reall plays the game of football how it's meant to be played as a high effort and motor player who's going to give you 100% on every play. Even as a smaller athlete, Reall broke tackles at a high level and showed good quickness and footwork as a runner.

Brady Stode's favorite target in Tyler Consolidated's week one win over Ritchie County was 2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1421204' first='Reese' last='Davis']. Davis is a new name to us this season who has a good baseball pedigree but shouldn't be overlooked on the football field for the Knights. He was productive as a sophomore last season with 300 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns but has already matched his scoring numbers and half of his receiving numbers from last season. Davis is a nice-sized target on the outside who can do damage from the slot as well and showed good YAC ability in week one for a bigger receiver. Davis will be a name to watch this season as Tyler Consolidated appears to be airing it out more this year.

Offense wasn't plentiful in Man's 13-7 win over Logan in week one but 2026 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1238236' first='Trey' last='Ward'] had a productive night for the Hillbillies. The 6'2 175 receiver caught 6 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown that ended up being the game-winner. Ward also picked off one of four total interceptions by the Man defense on a nice reaction while playing centerfield. Ward was a matchup problem for the Wildcats given his length and athleticism and moved well for his size on film with a nice YAC play on his touchdown. He was an All-State player in 2023 and will be a small school player to watch over the next two years.

Another 2028 prospect who you need to familiarize yourself with throughout the coming years is Madonna QB [player_tooltip player_id='892650' first='Maddox' last='Bowen']. The young quarterback led the Blue Dons to a huge comeback win over Wellsville (OH) in game one of the John McCune era at Madonna. Bowen looked like a freshman starting his first high school game at times but did a great job managing some challenging weather conditions which saw the game delayed multiple times. He finished the night completing 9/16 passes for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 30-28 come-from-behind victory. His best football is far ahead of him as he continues to grow both physically and developmentally but game one was a great start to Bowen's young career.

We have an early season #1 vs #2 matchup when Wahama travels to recently named Class A Doddridge County in week two. This game should tell us a lot about the Class A landscape for this season as both teams handled top teams from a season ago in dominating fashion in week one. Wahama has the premiere small school player in the state with 2025 RB [player_tooltip player_id='907169' first='Connor' last='Lambert'] who earned our PRZ WV Offensive Player of the Week and will be a very big handful for the Bulldog defense to contain. Doddridge County will welcome the challenge as one of the early favorites in the class to make it to Charleston this season in a reshaped classification. Don't count out the Bulldogs in a potential upset but we're going with the White Falcons cement themselves as the top team in the class this year.
