Class D2-Class A Player of the Year
There is no question who our D2-Class A player of the year is for the 2023 season. Wolcott was an absolute stud last year from start to finish where he ended up rushing for 3,027 yards while producing a staggering number of 54 rushing touchdowns on the season. We had to give Wolcott his due, especially after being snubbed for Mr. Football, which he was the clear cut winner in our book. The Commanders stud running back was also a beast on defense where he put up 77 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 1 Int & 2 sacks on the year. Wolcott had an outstanding high school career that was capped by his best season yet.

Offensive Player of the Year
Your Mr. Football winner for the 2023 season, Mosley was near unstoppable for the ‘23 season where the Eagles rising senior led the state in receiving at 1,482 yards on the year while producing 24 touchdowns through the air and 25 in total with one coming on the ground. The Eagles had a banner ‘23 season where they saw their season end prematurely but Mosley was a major reason for the successful year with his explosive play on both sides of the ball that kept Jackson Christian in state title contention. All these stats were produced as a junior and Mosley has another year under his belt with his quarterback returning too, so watch out for this playmaker yet again for the coming ‘24 football year.

Defensive Player of the Year
The Cougars had a nasty defense for the ‘23 season with Jones at the forefront of that effort as he led the team in tackles at 160 along with 11.5 for loss and 3 sacks on the year. The Cougars senior linebacker was a monster at linebacker all season long and the leader of one of the best defenses in the greater Mid-Tennessee area. Jones was a durable performer that played at a high level each and every game, providing his Cougars defense a consistent presence that would resonate throughout the rest of the team. His performance over the four year career at MTCS will place him as one of the best defensive players to ever come out of the Cougars football program.

Coach of the Year
Christian Peterson – MTCS
It’s hard not to give a guy “COY’ honors after he led a football program to their 1st ever state title and that’s what Coach Peterson did. Only his 2nd year on the job as the head man, Coach Peterson did a tremendous job of keeping his team together and focused on one common goal throughout the entire ‘23 season then accomplishing that goal. It’s hard to play at a high level the entire year but that’s what the Cougars did as week in and week out, the MTCS football team took every team’s best shot and still won. Their only defeat in 2023 came to the 1A state champ South Pitt. Coach Peterson now has a “Gold Ball” attached to his name in the hallways at MTCS that will forever be there and possibly the 1st of many to come.

Positional MVP’s
QB: Austin Kelley Austin Kelley 6'3" | 170 lbs | QB Jackson Christian | 2025 TN – Jackson Christian
– Kelley had a breakthrough year where he excelled at a high level from beginning to end by putting up 2,809 yards passing and 40 touchdowns in the air while leading his Eagles team to a 10 win season. He has a lot of offensive weapons back for the ‘24 year, so I’m expecting another big season out of Kelley.

RB: Eli Wilson Eli Wilson 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB MTCS | 2024 State TN – MTCS
– A multi-year starter and steady presence on the Cougars squad, Wilson had an outstanding senior season where he ran for 2,131 yards with 34 touchdowns on the ground. This guy has been a playmaker since the moment he stepped into the lineup at MTCS with his best year yet coming last Fall in the Cougars run to the D2-Class A state title.

WR: Brayden Waller Brayden Waller 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR TCA | 2025 State TN – Trinity Christian ‘25
– Waller has done nothing but produce at a high level since he stepped on the field with TCA with his junior season being yet another strong one. He hauled in 53 receptions for 1,073 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season while averaging 20.2 yards per catch.

OL: Jesse Perry Jesse Perry 6'7" | 285 lbs | OL MTCS | 2024 State TN – MTCS
– A stalwart up front on both sides of the ball, Perry earned our O-lineman of the year after a dominating season where he did not allow a sack on the way to the Cougars 1st ever state championship. Perry is headed to Tennessee for college where he will have a shot to earn a place on the Vols depth chart early on due to his athleticism and ability to play multiple O-line positions.

DL: Andy Griffith Andy Griffith 6'2" | 220 lbs | DL Mt. Juliet Chrst. Academy | 2025 TN – MJCA ‘25
– Griffith burst onto the scene in a big way this past Fall where he led the D2-Class A ranks in sacks at 13 while also producing 81 tackles and 25 tackles for loss. This Wilson County native was in serious contention for Def. Player of the Year due to his dominating performance throughout the ‘23 season.

LB: Zeb Pulliam – Fayette Academy ‘25
– This Vikings junior linebacker led the D2-Class A ranks in tackles at 167, placing himself on the map as one of the best pure tacklers within his classification. Pulliam was a steady force all season long for a developing Vikings team that will definitely lean on this 2025 linebacker for another big year in 2024.

DB: Charlie Goss Charlie Goss 6'3" | 180 lbs | DB First Assembly | 2026 TN – First Assembly ‘26
– Better get to know this rising junior as Goss had a monster sophomore season that placed him on the map as a potential college prospect down the line. The Crusaders safety produced 75 tackles on the year but it was his ball hawk abilities and 9 interceptions on the year that earned him this award.
