These intriguing 2027s made their presence known on the field and raised their stock as their prep football careers just begin to take off.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Zane Johnson, a quarterback at Trinity High School. Johnson and the Shamrocks are coming off a 41-20 win over Bryan Station in the Class 6A championship game last week. What impresses me the most about Johnson is his ability to mesh well with the offense, utilizing his arm strength and precision to overwhelm the opposition in the air. In addition to solid decision-making in crucial moments, Johnson’s ability to escape the defense on the ground and get the ball out of his hands before the defense makes contact makes him a dangerous gunslinger to sleep on.

rnI am additionally impressed with Jeremiah Anderson Jeremiah Anderson 5’10” | 205 lbs | LB Pikeville | 2027 State KY , a linebacker at Pikeville High School. Anderson and the Panthers picked up a 21-0 shutout win over Raceland in the Class 1A title game this past week. Anderson impresses me due to his multi-faceted playstyle and ability to blast past the defense on the ground as well as catch the rush from along the edge on the other side of the ball. Anderson’s physical edge and ability to pick up speed in the pocket has also made a considerable difference, proving himself as a high-level talent in his first season of high school football.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Kade Goodin Kade Goodin 6’2″ | 170 lbs | QB Collins | 2027 State KY , a quarterback at Collins High School. What makes Goodin so explosive under center is his unpredictability as well as his electric speed off the snap. Goodin has been unstoppable on the ground this past year, slipping past the defense in the pocket as he marches into the endzone. Another aspect of Goodin’s playstyle that contributed to his success was his ability to connect with his receivers on deep passes, proving he can strike in the air as well as beat the defense on the ground.
rnAnother skilled prospect to watch for is Jordan Haskins Jordan Haskins 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Bryan Station | 2027 State KY , a defensive back at Bryan Station High School. Haskins and the Defenders fell 41-20 to Trinity in the Class 6A championship game last week. In addition to excellent awareness and the ability to capitalize on turnovers, what stands out most about Haskins is his ability to lock down receivers in coverage and attack the ball in the air, showing off his ability to pick off the quarterback. Haskins also impresses me with his ability to quickly stop receivers after the catch, proving his ability to instantly blast the offense to the ground and protect the backfield.
rnComing in at number five on my list is Fisher Brinegar Fisher Brinegar 6’5″ | 280 lbs | OL Moody | 2027 AL , an offensive lineman at Mayfield High School. Brinegar and the Cardinals collected a close 53-48 win over Owensboro Catholic in the Class 2A title game this past week. What makes Brinegar so impactful at the line is his size, speed and ability to win one-on-one matchups with the defensive line. On top of excellent blocking power and the ability to quickly overwhelm the defense, Brinegar showcased his ability to absorb pressure and create disorganization in the pocket to open up the field for the rush.

rnAlso worth mentioning is LaMonte Brown Jr. LaMonte Brown Jr. 6’1″ | 240 lbs | DL Frederick Douglass | 2027 State KY , a defensive lineman at Bryan Station High School. Brown and the Defenders fell 41-20 to Trinity in the Class 6A championship game last week. What makes Brown so dangerous on the defensive end is his ability to read the offense like a book, instantly suffocate the rush and make commanding stops. Another aspect of Brown’s playstyle that makes a difference is his ability to stun the offense with his strength and quickly apply pressure on the quarterback. I also like how Brown forces mistakes with his quick execution, defensive aggression and stopping power.
