MILLWOOD’S TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
When we look at the Millwood offense, the balance in their attack between the run and pass game is incredibly impressive. And with their running game specifically, they have balance within that. Three players have stood out at running back this season. Freshman Anthony Keys Anthony Keys RB Millwood | 2027 State OK is one of those players to keep an eye on when the Falcons take the field on Saturday night. Keys has been electric with the football in his hands this season. Keys and the Falcons are hungry for that state championship. As a freshman, Keys didn’t have the opportunity to play for the state title a year ago. He gets that first chance on Saturday night.
We’ve written about Millwood junior linebacker Cameron Carter Cameron Carter 6’1″ | LB Millwood | 2025 State OK quite a bit since the end of last season. And probably every time we write about Carter, we’ve written about his impact in the state title game against Washington. Carter was without a doubt one of the best players on the field that day. He was consistently causing problems for the Washington offense and his stock jumped in a big way that day. This season, not only is Carter still one of the more disruptive players on the Millwood defense, he’s also turned around and been valuable on offense. He’s turned into the short yardage specialist for Millwood at running back and it’s paid off.
Millwood sophomore quarterback CJ Turnbull CJ Turnbull 6’3″ | 190 lbs | QB Millwood | 2026 State OK is certainly a prospect that we’re going to be keeping an eye on Saturday when the Falcons take the field. Turnbull seems to always impress when we watch him in person and he’s been that way since the very first game of his high school career. Turnbull has started for the Falcons from game one as a freshman and he’s only continued to grow his game. Turnbull throws an excellent deep ball and his knack for making the big play is outstanding. Saturday’s game features two very good offenses. We could see a high-scoring affair and Turnbull should be ready for that if it comes down to it.
Highlights
Saturday’s match-up between Millwood and Washington features two teams that benefit from having quite a few players that are going to be playing on Saturday and at a very high level. One of those players is junior wide receiver Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6’4″ | WR Douglass | 2025 State OK for Millwood. Nickens has a very unique story on his emergence as a prospect on the football field after being a basketball star as a freshman. But Nickens has emerged as one of the top wide receivers in the state and one of the best overall playmakers in the state as well. That was evident last week when Kiefer scored with 12 seconds left but kicked it off to Nickens, who returned it 70 yards for the game-winning touchdown.
Senior defensive back Jamariyon Franklin Jamariyon Franklin 6’1″ | DB Millwood | 2024 State OK moved from Douglass to Millwood this offseason and immediately gave the Falcon secondary an impact player at the cornerback position. When we caught Millwood in person two weeks ago in the quarterfinal round, Franklin was one of the more physically impressive prospects to watch on a field full of guys that will be playing at the next level. We didn’t see much of Franklin when he was at Douglass but he has been outstanding for the Falcons this season. We know this is what was expected back in the summer when we talked with the Millwood coaches. Franklin and the Millwood secondary will be big against Washington’s pass game.
We mentioned that depth at the running back position and you can make the argument that Millwood sophomore Lemar Davis Lemar Davis 5’8″ | 150 lbs | RB Deer Creek | 2026 State OK is the biggest breakout star for the Falcons this season. Davis was somewhat of an unknown for us back in August but it didn’t take long for him to get on our radar. Davis was put into the lineup and had several big performances in the first half of the 2023 regular season. Davis has a chance to really impact the game on Saturday night. If Carter is the power back on this offense, that means Davis is the speedster and when he gets into the open field, he’s tough to catch. That was proven a few times this season.
Highlights
When we talked with Millwood’s head coach Darwin Franklin earlier this week, he mentioned his entire offensive line being so critical to what they do. When you look at Millwood’s offense, balance is a big theme. They are so dangerous in what they do on offense. And with the Falcons dealing with injuries to their offensive line, it’s opened the door for new players to emerge. Senior offensive lineman Magnus Taylor Magnus Taylor OL Millwood | 2024 OK is one of those players this season. Taylor has been solid all season. Taylor and the Falcons will look to limit the impact that Washington’s front seven can have on this game. That’s another big match-up to watch.
Millwood senior standout Micho Lavine Micho Lavine 6’3″ | 210 lbs | ATH Millwood | 2024 State OK has been an X-factor for us over the last few seasons. Lavine can do so many different things well on both sides of the ball and he feels like Millwood’s own swiss army knife with all the things he can bring to the table. Lavine hasn’t had to play much offense because of their growing depth at running back. But he’s still a game-wrecker on the defensive side of the ball. Lavine has certainly had this game circled on his own personal calendar with how the game last year ended up. He’s going to be hungry to get on the field and help out a Millwood front seven that was dominant in last year’s match-up.
Millwood has some blazing fast players on the offensive side of the ball and junior speedster Xzavier Thompson Xzavier Thompson 5’10” | 145 lbs | WR Millwood | 2025 State OK is one of them. Whenever Thompson and Nickens are lined up on the same side of the offense, it’s a nightmare for opposing defenses on who they try to contain. Thompson is also an electric player in the return game for the Falcons. While Nickens gets a lot of headlines, and rightfully so, it would be foolish to overlook Thompson when it comes to this match-up. Thompson has been outstanding on the offensive side of the ball this season but don’t overlook what he can do as a return specialist on Saturday night against Washington.
Highlights
When we look at this match-up, it’s hard to imagine there being a bigger match-up than the Millwood linebackers and secondary going up against Washington’s two star tight ends and the Warrior passing game. We already mentioned it a few times in this breakdown. Another player for the Millwood defense to keep an eye on is junior defensive back Zyhir Fisher Zyhir Fisher 5’10” | DB Millwood | 2025 State OK in the Falcon secondary. Fisher, like Nickens, has some clutch tendencies in his game. Fisher was a star for the Falcons as they won another state title in basketball back in March. And Fisher certainly is another player that wants to erase the memory of last season’s title loss.
