CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
2-4 All Time (7th Title Appearance)
The Washington Warriors are making Edmond a regular stop in December as this is their fourth consecutive season to make it to the Class 2A state championship game. It’s also the seventh time in school history that the Warriors are playing for the state title. Last year, Washington got over the hump by beating Millwood in the title game. Prior to that, Washington had to settle for the silver ball in four consecutive title appearances, including the 2017, 2020 and 2021 championship games. After winning it all back in 1996, last year’s victory gave the Warriors their second state championship in school history. Now, they’ll look to go back to back and continue their dominance over Class 2A.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 46.9 Points Per Game
The Washington offense was going to be talented coming into this season. And they’ve proven it throughout the year, averaging just shy of 47 points per game. They have six games this season with at least 50 points and have been completely balanced on that side of the ball. They have legit star power and some of the key players they lost from last year’s team, have been replaced and the production has remained the same. This is a Washington offense that has scored at least 30 points in every game this season and it will be interesting to see how they look against Millwood’s speed.
DEFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 7.1 Points Per Game
As talented as the Washington offense has been, you can make the argument that the defense has been right there with them. They had a streak of shutouts earlier this season when they were dominating their way to another district championship. They had six consecutive shutouts and they carried that momentum into the playoffs. They’ve only given up double digits on four occasions this season. Now, they also just gave up a season-high 34 points to Jones in the semifinals. The next highest point total was 14 from Vian in the quarterfinals. But this has been an excellent unit to watch.
STAR POWER
Washington junior tight end Nate Roberts Nate Roberts 6’4″ | 235 lbs | TE Washington | 2025 State OK defines “star power” when you consider all the offers he has from D1 programs across the country. And Roberts was a star last season as a sophomore when he caught what would be the game-winning touchdown against Millwood in the state championship game. We currently have Roberts right at the top of the 2025 prospect rankings in Oklahoma and he’s as good as it gets at the tight end position. Considering what happened the last time Roberts was on the field at UCO, we’re looking forward to seeing what he does for an encore.
#2 MILLWOOD FALCONS (13-1)
Aug. 31 – Lost To Heritage Hall 47-24
Sept. 9 – Beat Douglass 81-0
Sept. 15 – Beat Scott City, KS. 6-0
Sept. 22 – Beat Alva 36-13
Sept. 29 – Beat Chisholm 34-16
Oct. 6 – Beat Perry 18-6
Oct. 12 – Beat Newkirk 49-14
Oct. 20 – Beat Oklahoma Christian School 22-20
Oct. 27 – Beat Hennessey 65-17
Nov. 3 – Beat Blackwell 48-0
1st Round – Beat Crossings Christian 32-0
2nd Round – Beat Purcell 38-14
Quarterfinals – Beat Idabel 34-7
Semifinals – Beat Kiefer 34-29
CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
7-4 All Time (12th Title Appearance)
For the second straight year and the 12th time in school history, the Millwood Falcons are playing for a state championship. Millwood owns a 7-4 record in the state championship game but they are looking for their first gold ball since winning back to back championships in 2016 and 2017. The Falcons have been outstanding when they’ve gotten to this point in the season. They lost their first two championship appearances and have gone 7-2 since. But this is certainly a team that remembers how close they were to winning the gold ball last season. And they haven’t forgotten that feeling on the field following the game with Washington. Millwood has had this date circled for a while and it’s finally here.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 37.2 Points Per Game
The thing that impresses us the most about the offensive side of the ball for Millwood is the consistency they play with. They come into Saturday’s championship test averaging just over 37 points per game. And when you look down their schedule, that’s right around where they’ve been every single week. They came into this season with a young but talented quarterback and some dynamic players at wide receiver. They needed to find a new weapon in the running game and they’ve done so by committee with a few breakout stars. The Falcons will look to keep that consistency this week.
DEFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 13.1 Points Per Game
While Millwood doesn’t have the shutout streak that Washington had earlier this season, the Falcons have done an excellent job on the defensive side of the ball. They’ve given up just shy of 14 points per game and they’ve really done a good job against some of the better offenses in Class 2A. The two more notable performances were in the quarterfinals against an electric Idabel offense and then in the regular season against OCS with the district title on the line. In both instances, Millwood’s defense rose to the challenge. They also did a good job last year against Washington in the title game.
STAR POWER
We can say a lot of the same things that we said about Roberts right here with fellow junior Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6’4″ | WR Douglass | 2025 State OK at the wide receiver position. He’s right there with Roberts as arguably the top overall prospect in the state. He committed to OU earlier this year and is an absolute star when the football is in his hands. The perfect example of that comes in last week’s semifinal round. Kiefer scored with 12 seconds remaining to take the lead but Nickens took the ensuing kickoff all the way back as time expired to send the Falcons back to Edmond. He was special Friday and they hope he’s special again this week.
