Continue ReadingAfter an action-packed week of high school football action in the semifinals, it’s time to visit the Volunteer State to highlight some of the most impactful prospects that made their presence known on the field this past week and helped advance their teams to the state title game. These guys elevated their game to another level last week and established themselves as top tier playmakers ahead of state title competition.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Daune Morris Daune Morris 5’10” | 180 lbs | RB Oakland | 2025 State TN , a running back at Oakland High School. Morris and the Patriots punched their way into the title game against Houston with a 38-17 win over Bradley Central this past week. Morris impresses me with his footwork and breakaway speed, showcasing his ability to juke out the defense, find openings in the pocket and blast his way into the backfield. I also like how Morris utilizes bursts of speed to muscle past the defense and take it all the way to the house.
rnI am additionally impressed with Garrett Hagan Garrett Hagan 6’3″ | 240 lbs | DL Houston | 2025 State TN , a defensive lineman at Houston High School. Hagan and the Mustangs earned a 28-0 shutout victory over Brentwood last week to secure a spot in the title game against Oakland. Hagan stands out with his ability to read the offense and quickly pounce on players in the pocket. Hagan can also apply pressure on the quarterback, proving he can shake the offensive line, sack the gunslinger and disrupt passing by knocking the ball out of the air.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Marshaun Bowers Marshaun Bowers 5’9″ | 185 lbs | RB Knox. West | 2024 State TN , an athlete at Knoxville West High School. Bowers and the Rebels recorded a 38-3 win over Walker Valley this past week to set up a matchup against Page in the championship game. Bowers impresses me with his physical edge and versatility, showing off his toughness on the ground. I also like Bowers due to his electric speed along the edge and ability to break tackles on his way into the backfield. Bowers also stands out with his ability to stay on his feet in the redzone and force his way in for the touchdown.

rnAnother skilled prospect to watch is Elijah Cannon Elijah Cannon 6’1″ | 210 lbs | LB Alcoa | 2024 State TN , a linebacker at Alcoa High School. Cannon and the Tornadoes collected a 38-7 victory over Giles County last week to earn a spot in the title game against East Nashville Magnet. What I like about Cannon is his size and speed, showcasing his ability to apply pressure on the quarterback and catch the rush both in the pocket and in the backfield. Cannon also impresses due to his footwork and ability to read the running back, proving he can deter the offensive line and catch the rush. Cannon also contributes with his quickness off the snap and ability to sack the quarterback.

rnComing in at number five on my list is Evan Briggs Evan Briggs 6’2″ | 275 lbs | OL Upperman | 2024 TN , an offensive lineman at Upperman High School. Briggs and the Bees picked up a 21-14 win over Greeneville this past week to set up a matchup with Pearl-Cohn in the championship game. Briggs makes a considerable difference at the line, proving he can absorb pressure and overpower the defense. I also like how Briggs can exert his strength in the pocket and consistently open up the field for his teammates with his ability to block and knock defenders to the ground.

rnAlso worth mentioning is Tate Surber Tate Surber 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB McKenzie | 2025 TN , a quarterback at McKenzie High School. Surber and the Rebels are coming off a 25-14 victory over Dresden last week to secure a spot in the championship game against South Pittsburg. What impresses me the most about Surber is his arm strength and precision in the air, proving he can launch deep bullets into the backfield and put his team on the scoreboard. I also like how Surber can connect with his receivers in coverage, showing off his quick release and pin-point accuracy in the air. I also like how Surber can quickly target his receivers along the edge and stay on his feet under pressure.
