Zavier Hunter, 2030, ATH, Hilliard Darby (Ohio)– Zavier was all over the field and seemed to play his best as everyone else was getting tired. At first, all I saw was a sizable frame that definitely has the potential to become a big problem for everyone else. Then, the more he played and the more plays I saw him make that you just don’t see at this age, it became apparent that Zavier was different. Offensively, he’s a physical and skilled receiver who can box his defender out around the goal line, and when he’s in space, he can just straight up high point the ball over top of the defender. I like how he uses his hands and doesn’t let it hit his body, and I like his ability to make catches in traffic with tremendous focus. I’m pumped to see what he has in store on day 2.
Corbin Rachal, 2031, QB, Barfield (Tennessee)– Corbin really seemed to be in control from the jump. He has a surprisingly strong arm for his size, which is absolutely no dig. I think he’s going to grow into this strong arm he has, and pose quite a threat to defenses all over Tennessee. Corbin was able to make quick decisions, get the ball up high and fire it in some pretty tight windows. I think he will need to work on deep touch passes, though the windy conditions were not in the QBs favors today, so that could be a factor in some passes floating. Overall, this is a solid QB prospect that is absolutely on the right trajectory right now.
Paxton Smalling, 2030, QB, Center Grove (Indiana)– Smalling is another interesting QB that I witnessed today, and I came away impressed. The lefty seemed comfortable letting the play develop, and he had the vision to get the ball to his target as he was coming available, showing some nice anticipation. Paxton was able to utilize his strong baseball arm to fire balls into tight spots, and throw deep, even with some wind to contend with. I hope to get a closer look at him on day two, but on day one, I came away feeling pretty confident this will be a hot prospect soon.
Mason Moore, 2030, ATH, Soarkman (Alabama)– Mason played a variety of positions today, but I think I really zero’d in on Mason’s play as a DB. He’s very clearly disciplined, as he ensured he didn’t bite on double moves, he doesn’t cross his feet, and he is able to play the ball well through the receivers hands. Whether he is off the line a few yards, or right up and getting physical with the receiver, he does a great job of sticking with his man. He’s also a solid communicator, letting his teammates know of a switch or if there’s something they may be missing. He will have to continue working on the weight room and filling in physically, but I like where he is technique-wise so far.
