Coming off earning Mr. Football for the 1A football level, Surber achieved our player of the year after a stellar senior season that saw him produce some astonishing stats. From his quarterback position, Surber threw for 3,148 yards and 36 touchdowns on the year while also rushing for 1,173 yards and 28 scores. The Rebels signal caller alone produced 64 touchdowns by himself. I don’t know all the records but that has to be at the top of the board when it comes to most touchdowns produced in a season. I’m sure Surber would have liked to end his high school career with a state title but at least he wrapped everything up with Mr. Football and Prep Redzone TN 1A player of the year instead.

Coming home with Mr. Football for his senior year, Surber was nearly unstoppable this Fall where he dominated the field and almost single handedly put his Rebels team in the Class 1A state championship. His team came up one game short but Surber had one of the better individual season’s of all time in school history. This future UT-Martin quarterback threw for 3,148 yards with 36 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. Surber was also a stud on the ground as well where he produced 1,173 yards rushing and 28 scores on the year. The Skyhawks got a steal with Surber and possibly their future starting quarterback.

Taking his team into the Class 1A semifinals and a 14-1 record as a senior, Surber capped off his high school career by winning “Mr. Football”. He earned this honor after throwing for 3,177 yards and 36 touchdowns with a 67 percent completion percentage while also running for 1,212 yards and 28 touchdowns on the ground. Those are some filthy numbers!! Going into today’s announcements, there was no question in my mind who earned and deserved this top honor as Surber put together one of the best individual performances of all-time in Tennessee HS football history!

Just recently named a semifinalist for 1A Mr. Football, Surber is one of the best senior quarterbacks in the state that has his Rebels team in-line to compete for another state title. The future UT-Martin signal caller has been stellar all year long and I don’t expect him to dial back his play moving forward. Surber has been on a tear of late, carving up defenses with both his arm and his legs. Teams will certainly key on him but the Rebels star quarterback may be too good to stop.
