On Monday, we finished off our prospect ranking update with the unveiling of the Top 200 for the state’s 2024 class. In case you missed it, you can check out the complete rankings RIGHT HERE. Also, be sure to go back and check out the other ranking updates and breakdowns of the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes. In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on five prospects who are some of the best pass catchers in the state’s 2024 class. From plenty of wide receivers to a future D1 tight end, we have it covered here. Be sure to keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2024 prospect breakdowns this week!
We lead off this breakdown with one of the more versatile prospects on this post. Classen standout Elijah Green Elijah Green 6’2″ | 180 lbs | WR Classen SAS @ Ne | 2024 State OK has done just about everything he can do on the football field for the Comets this season. Not only is he one of the top wide receivers in his class, but he’s committed to Tulsa and will more than likely be on the defensive side of the ball. He’s come down with several interceptions this season as a ball hawk defensive back. As Classen got into district play, Green would impact the game in multiple ways on offense. From lining up as a running back and finishing a game with 20+ carries to tossing touchdown passes, Green has done a little bit of everything. Now, we still have Green listed as a wide receiver because he has been a star on the offensive side of the ball. But in our last update in January, his position will more than likely move to DB.
Highlights
Washington’s Cooper Alexander Cooper Alexander 6’4″ | 205 lbs | TE Washington | 2024 State OK is the only tight end on this breakdown but he’s been considered one of the top overall prospects in the state’s 2024 class for about three years now. And during that same timeframe, it’s hard to argue anyone other than Alexander has been the top prospect at his position. For those that aren’t familiar with Alexander, he is the son of former OU and NFL tight end Stephen Alexander. The Iowa State commit helped lead the Warriors to a state championship a season ago and he’s back at it again this season. Alexander is the complete package at the position. He is just as valuable to Washington as an extension of the offensive line as he is as a pass catcher. As he goes to the next level, he is going to be incredibly prepared to make an impact early on in his college career. But first, he wants another state championship.
Sulphur’s Damontre Patterson Damontre Patterson 5’10” | 145 lbs | WR Sulphur | 2024 State OK is hands down one of the more intriguing prospects in the state’s 2024 class. First off, we thought Patterson was going to end up on the defensive side of the ball as a prospect. When we saw him as a freshman, he was a standout cornerback. He began his varsity career at Elmore City and then moved to Ada before settling in Sulphur for his final high school season. And Patterson became more of a prospect on the offensive side of the ball during those transitions. We still think he’s one of the better corners in 1 on 1 situations but his future is at wide receiver. And that’s where you get a chance to see his speed and playmaking ability. Earlier this season, Patterson announced his commitment and even that was intriguing. He committed to New Hampshire and we have to point out that we don’t see that very often.
Highlights
Edison standout Corey Rowland Corey Rowland 6’1″ | 175 lbs | WR Thomas Edison Preparatory | 2024 State OK is in a similar boat to Green at Classen. Like Green, Rowland is arguably the team’s best player and so he plays many more roles than just wide receiver. But we first got a chance to see Rowland in the offseason when we did our annual “Friday Film Review” series. We looked at him on film and immediately became impressed with his natural playmaking ability at the wide receiver position. Later on in the offseason, Rowland would shine in various 7v7 tournaments and he would make an impact on both sides of the ball. So like Green, it’s very possible that by the time our next update is published in January, Rowland could be under a different position label. But for now, we’re keeping him at wide receiver because he is incredibly dynamic on that side of the ball. He was one of the more impressive receivers we watched on film in the spring.
Highlights
Bixby’s Kordell Gouldsby Kordell Gouldsby 5’11” | WR Bixby | 2024 State OK is arguably the most underrated prospect in the state’s 2024 class. And whenever you’re talking about prospects and how they stack up, the term “underrated” gets thrown around so much that it loses meaning. But here, it fits like a glove. Every single time that Gouldsby gets the ball in his hands, he’s a threat to end up in the end zone. And that’s not just as a wide receiver. Bixby has gotten creative with him and he’s had plenty of carries this year and going back to last year. Then you look at the impact that he has in the return game as a punt returner. For whatever reason, teams still kick the ball to him and more times than not, he makes them pay with multiple punt return for scores. Gouldsby missed some time earlier this season but he came back with a vengeance last week in the win on the road against Westmoore.
