Long legs and arms, an obvious observation. What I’ve been liking about Kevin Heywood Kevin Heywood 6’7″ | 300 lbs | OL Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA recently is his ability to block with his head out of the block, designating holes for RBs. What exactly do I mean by that? Heywood’s hand placement and power allows him to punch and grasp a kid’s chestplate, shoulder pad, use circular force and torque, and define holes for backs running in off-tackle run sets. Heywood isn’t seen too often blocking with his belly, or his facemask, or his shoulder pads, it’s an advanced trait that is honestly gifted to this young man. Continuous work in this area will have him working quickly at Wisconsin. It’s about consistency too. You can count on Heywood run-blocking with his head and gut out of the play, his incredible wingspan helps of course.
This supreme upper body torque allows Heywood to simply throw kids out of the way, he did just that in the game I attended against Judge. I’m usually enamored with Heywood as a potential pass-blocker, yet I came away focused on his ability to punch-and-shock in the run game, he finished reps well too. Can’t say I came away surprised if I’m being honest. Saw Heywood work on the move too, not sure how an unblocked defender in his path is supposed to go about stopping a barrelling mammoth headed straight to clear a B or C gap. Was fun watching him as always.

19 total touchdowns. 1100+ yards, all against quality competition. Baffling that he hasn’t received more traction in recruiting, it will come though, the PSAC will come calling at some point. For now, Boyd Skarbek Boyd Skarbek 6’0″ | 190 lbs | RB Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA is focused on tearing through defenses behind a great OL unit.
Skarbek ran for 150+ yards against Judge while I was in attendance. Three scores, made everything look effortless. Caught some balls too, a complete effort. A tackle-breaker all throughout the field, can find him out-maneuvering DLs that have penetrated the LOS, can find Skarbek barrelling through DBs for extra yardage, every defensive position has to be on their toes in terms of tackling Skarbek. Experience running in tight or wide sets. Coaches might question his long speed, which is understandable if putting Skarbek under a testing/camp microscope, yet his tape displays plenty of home runs hit. Love how tight he stays when hitting holes between the B gaps, he helps out his lead blockers by doing so, makes the tackling window narrow. Smart football player whose stock is rising each week.

While Skarbek is likely the opposing DCs main priority, opposing DCs will have to account for the multi-faceted game Brent Mitala Brent Mitala DB Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA brings to the table. You see the production, not only on both sides of the ball but both through the ground and air. A trustworthy option, Mitala is a prospect coaches can win with and/or because of. Have him work on special teams, split him out to the slot and watch him provide his numbers to QBs. Give him an occasional carry, Mitala can work. Where I like him best is at Safety. That might not be the flashy pick for his future projection, he provides a blend of experience and trustworthiness when serving as a backend safety valve. Unafraid to tackle, unafraid to mix with the front seven. Athletic enough to challenge even some of the best pass-catchers in his conference. Big fan.

Size caught my eye immediately, can’t find 6’3 EDGE defenders everywhere you go. Was often unblocked in the game against Judge, discipline, and motor show up in these areas. Likes to engage and toss, heavy left-right lateral foot movement, speed, and agility are how he likes to win. Weak-side DE, head-up on tackles, registered a sack in the game I attended.
Taking a look at his mid-season film, 5+ sacks through said tape. 12 TFLs too, solid production out of this senior halfway through the year. Tape conveys a lot of what I saw in person, speed speed speed, and a good motor attached. Ton of upfield momentum off the snap.

Capable of playing TE, yet is serving primarily as a DE that can shade either side of the tackle, both weak side or strong. Also serving as the PJP2 left tackle. Has the athletic ceiling that coaches drool over. His complete alignment/position versatility and experience are only going to help further boost his stock. A fantastic puller, again, this kid isn’t even 230 pounds, so he doesn’t have much of a choice but to lean into his speed-over-power approach. That being said, I harp on coaches plugging in his tape and taking a look at how he finishes reps. Would be a menace in terms of power if he could put on 15-20 pounds. Can stay this weight and wreak havoc as an EDGE defender. Fun player to watch.

Orchestrated the offense to a tee. Despite how much of a fan I am of Terlesky’s skill set, PJP2 is dead-set on running the football. Can’t say I blame the coaching staff, running Mitala, Skarbek, and other young talents behind a talented OL, why deviate from that working formula. Thankfully, PJP2 has a quarterback prospect that can step up to the plate if called upon, no pun intended. Like his ability to process information/reads. Terlesky wasn’t asked to do much in the game I attended against Judge, he also doesn’t have a mid-season tape out yet, so this eval/update is a bit lackluster.

Was special on special teams. Scored a two-point conversion on a ridiculous back-and-forth play that showed off Reed’s athletic ability in the open field, a must-watch play on tape. Reed also torched Judge on a kick return that went back for a score. Against Judge, Reed didn’t need to catch too many balls, yet he still caught a screen for a score in this one. His presence was felt.
Mid-season tape conveys one of the better play-makers and returnmen the junior class has to offer. A threat to score on any punt/kick return, has scored touchdowns from practically all areas of the field, this goes for his reps at WR too. Utilized in misdirection sets, gotcha-plays. Ranks as a top 25 ATH, wideout reps alone would have him place high on our ranks.
