Long legs and arms, an obvious observation. What I’ve been liking about Kevin Heywood Kevin Heywood 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA recently is his ability to block with his head out of the block, designating holes for RBs. What exactly do I mean by that? Heywood’s hand placement and power allows him to punch and grasp a kid’s chestplate, shoulder pad, use circular force and torque, and define holes for backs running in off-tackle run sets. Heywood isn’t seen too often blocking with his belly, or his facemask, or his shoulder pads, it’s an advanced trait that is honestly gifted to this young man. Continuous work in this area will have him working quickly at Wisconsin. It’s about consistency too. You can count on Heywood run-blocking with his head and gut out of the play, his incredible wingspan helps of course.

This supreme upper body torque allows Heywood to simply throw kids out of the way, he did just that in the game I attended against Judge. I’m usually enamored with Heywood as a potential pass-blocker, yet I came away focused on his ability to punch-and-shock in the run game, he finished reps well too. Can’t say I came away surprised if I’m being honest. Saw Heywood work on the move too, not sure how an unblocked defender in his path is supposed to go about stopping a barrelling mammoth headed straight to clear a B or C gap. Was fun watching him as always.

As stated briefly above, Kevin Heywood Kevin Heywood 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA is the prospect out of this bunch with the highest upside. McDowell’s Cooper Cousins Cooper Cousins 6'6" | 310 lbs | OL McDowell | 2024 State PA boasts a similar frame to Heywood, which is the prime factor bolstering Heywood’s stock. Teams drooled over the idea of molding this clay. Clay molders in Wisconsin are all too familiar with developing promising young talent. Although things haven’t panned out the way he or the Badgers would have liked, Nolan Rucci was the last giant lineman prospect ranked inside the top ten to commit to Wisconsin out of Pennsylvania. Hopefully, and very likely, Heywood will find better success than Rucci moving forward.

Heywood has elite size at 6-foot-7 and 295-pounds with the athleticism to go along with it. Elite player from every meaning of the word and is one of the state’s top prospects in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Arguably the offensive linemen with the highest upside. We’ve hammered down how excited we are about his potential, considering his 6’7 frame. There are more 6’7-6’8 linemen on the rankings, none have the potential Heywood exudes due to how athletic he is off the snap. Let’s not jump the gun, Heywood has work to do to reach this high ceiling we all speak of. Translating the quick feet we see in camp settings to the field has been a work in progress, one that is certainly working in his favor. Yet his elite feet and balance haven’t reached their ceiling.
