Week 8 of the 2023 high school football season is here, and it is a premier week of matchups across the state, including in Districts 4 and District 6. Below, we look at four of the best matchups from Districts 4 and Districts 6.

Southern Columbia (7-0) vs Mt. Carmel (5-2)

Southern Columbia appears to be well on their way to another state championship run, dominating every single week no matter the opponent. On the other side, Mount Carmel started the season 2-0 but has found a groove over their last three weeks, scoring 50+ points in each game and allowing just 34 points total. This matchup is a good late-season test for both teams. For Southern Columbia, Mount Carmel is a program that could probably give the Tigers a quality game. For Mount Carmel, this is a chance to make a late-season statement as they head toward the end of the regular season and look to make noise in the playoffs.

Jersey Shore (6-0-1) vs Montoursville (3-3)

This is the third straight tough game for Montoursville who started the season with a 3-1 record. The Warriors in their last two games took on Southern Columbia and Danville and now will have to face an elite Jersey Shore team. How will the Warriors respond? On the other side, Jersey Shore remains a team on a mission and has dominated all season. We'll look for Jersey Shore to continue to keep its foot on the gas, but for Montoursville, this is an opportunity to show improvements in the last two weeks. It will be a tough matchup, but perhaps the Warriors can find what it takes to keep this one close.

Clearfield (6-1) vs Richland (7-0)

Richland has been one of the most dominant teams in the Laurel-Highlands conference over the last several years, but they may be facing their biggest test of the season this weekend against Clearfield. Richland has a great offense and an elite defense, Clearfield has posted similar numbers this year on both sides, but the Rams still have the advantage on paper on both sides of the ball. We know Richland is a great team this season, and we're confident that Clearfield could be just as good, but do they have what it takes to take down Richland on Friday night? We'll have to wait and see. The Bison will need to especially be careful of 2024 running back [player_tooltip player_id='91528' first='Evan' last='McCracken'], who can take the game over at any moment.

Harrisburg (6-1) vs State College (5-1)

Possibly the premier matchup of the week in the state. Harrisburg and State College meet in State College this weekend. The two teams this season have been nearly unbeatable, State College being tripped up by Downingtown East earlier this season, while Harrisburg's only loss was a 38-6 loss to Manheim Township. Since that loss to the Flashes, Harrisburg has been dominant, outscoring their opponents 190-48. These two teams are very similar entering this week, both have very good offenses and elite defenses. There will be talent all up-and-down the field in this one, including FBS talents like [player_tooltip player_id='402439' first='D'Antae' last='Sheffey'] (State College), [player_tooltip player_id='269136' first='Michael' last='Gaul'] (State College), Sean Lee (Harrisburg), [player_tooltip player_id='212414' first='Elias' last='Coke'] (Harrisburg), and [player_tooltip player_id='402452' first='Kevin' last='Brown'] (Harrisburg). The winner in this one will get the leg up in the Mid-Penn conference as we head down the homestretch.
