In today’s article we are focusing on kids who might have that D1 potential, but will also see plenty of D2 offers. Many of those athletes are looking to get the ball rolling, so I want to highlight the ones that I believe are up next to receive their first offer. Coaches, make sure you are well aware of these studs. let’s get it started!
Don’t overlook the standout Sun Prairie East OL because he is 16th at this position. This WI OL class is ELITE. We are going to see double digit D1 commits just from this position alone. I fully expect the 6’3″ 260 lbs OT to earn many offers from the next level. His time can’t be far away. The All State OL offers versatility. He plays OT, but the more I compare his traits to the traits you want to see out of guards the more excited I get. He has the strength to control the trenches and dig DTs out of their gap. He also is very athletic for the OL position. That gives him the range to pull, get to the second level, and make blocks out in space on screens. No question, Gross also has the lateral agility needed to stay square in front of his opponents while they are pass rushing. I’m looking forward to that first offer rolling in.
Highlights
Despite being #58 overall, and #8 at his position I might still be sleeping on the Edgewood DE/Edge defender. Carter is on the verge of a monster breakout. I recommend getting to know his name now before it happens. Carter is a long, lean edge defender that is just scratching the surface on his potential. The 6’4″ 220 lbs junior holds D1 interest, but no offers from any level, yet. Carter is very athletic for the position, and looks at home when on the edge and in space stopping the outside running game. He is able to maneuver, slide, and juke laterally with ease. Carter also possesses an explosive first step that allows him to close the cushion and then transitions it into power. I’m excited to see him develop consistent pass rush moves to maximize his agility and strength.
The 6’1″ 180 lbs junior WR is simply unfair at the HS level. His athleticism is next level ready, and it shows up on game day. Zach has reported 4.50 40 speed, and it looks like it on tape as he instantly eats up cushions, and then leaves DBs in his dust. Zach is a mismatch nightmare out wide. Scher tracks the ball easily while deep down the field. Zach isn’t just a speedster. He also possesses impressive body control that allows him to run sudden routes. His ability to accelerate out of his breaks opens up big windows for his QB to target. I expect a big year from the junior this fall. I also expect to see him start earning offers during camp season as he shows off that speed and route running.
Highlights
An athlete who seems to improve every time I check back in on him is West Bend East OL Michael Kern Michael Kern 6’5″ | 250 lbs | OL West Bend East | 2024 State WI . The 6’5″ OT is now up to 240 lbs. He also has a 6’9″ wingspan. Tools that will allow him to stay out at OT at the next level. Kern’s frame has plenty of room to continue to fill out to the size needed to dominate at the D2-D1 level. Watching through his highlights, I am a big fan of his feet. Michael is able to move with ease on his light feet. He can get himself in position to always be between the defender and ball. He also uses those long arms to initiate contact and deliver a powerful punch. Kern also is able to generate good power with his consistently wide base. His technique is solid. His frame is continuing to develop. His feet are quick, and he is strong. Get him into camp and see him up close for yourself coaches. He is going to be a fast riser.
Ryan is an interesting chess piece on defense. He won DL of the Year for his conference last fall. At the next level he fits best at OLB or ILB. His film gives us a look at his potential on the edge. Ryan has the size at 6’2″ 220 lbs. On tape he has proven to have the strength to set the edge. He takes on blocks, gets separation, and can disengage and make the stop. Ryan also plays with good control and awareness. You won’t see him flying into the backfield blindly. He gets penetration, finds the ball, and closes quickly. I want to see him further develop pass rush moves to make him even more dangerous and well rounded. With that added to his game he will be even more enticing for the next level.
If I had to project a kid who rises this summer and fall and in the rankings it would be Rylan. The 5’10” 170 lbs DB has a surprisingly well rounded game. He has excellent speed at 4.59 seconds in the 40. Rylan has quick feet and loose hips that allow him to mirror receivers step for step. His acceleration allows him to burst to top speed very rapidly. Rylan stands out from most of the CBs because of his aggressive run support. Rodal attacks downhill when he reads run. He will run through block attempts and knife through traffic to get to the ball. He is a sound tackler who will drop the hammer when he gets the chance. His quick processing of what he sees stands out on many of his plays as well. I’m very excited for his breakout. Don’t sleep on this dude.
The 6’5″ 240 lbs DL/OL out of Lodi has received interest from every level from FCS to D3. It is only a matter of time until the big man earns that first offer. On offense, Josh”s highlights show off a rangy, powerful OG. He pulls with aggression and opens up massive holes as he buries unsuspecting DL into the ground. Josh is such an impressive athletes. He fits the mold you want in an OL. Someone with the feet of a lightweight boxer and the hands of a heavyweight boxer. On defense, Klann eats up space with his long strides. He also narrows the OL’s gap for response with his long arms. Josh shows active hands and utilizes pass rush moves to beat opponents. I truly believe Josh could play either side of the trenches at the next level. I’ll be interested to see what he is recruited as.
