After evaluating a few intriguing defensive lineman prospects, we will continue to take an in-depth look at the defensive side of the ball, taking a glance at some rising 2025 prospects. Here’s my list of the top 2025 defensive backs prospects in the state of Kentucky to watch for next season.

Kaleb Cole Kaleb Cole 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH Newport Central Catholic | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-0, 200-pound defensive back out of Newport Central Catholic High School, was a huge defensive weapon for the Thoroughbreds during his sophomore campaign last year. Over the course of 13 contests, Cole recorded 92 total tackles, including 48 solo stops, 44 assisted takedowns, four tackles for loss and one sack. Cole additionally forced one fumble last season. In addition to great size and speed, Cole contributes explosive toughness and great field awareness. With playing time on both sides of the ball, Cole also contributes great game knowledge. The rising junior will definitely be worth watching this fall.
Hunter Holloway Hunter Holloway 6'0" | 155 lbs | ATH Logan County | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-1, 150-pound defensive back out of Logan County High School, was a huge defensive playmaker for the Cougars during his sophomore year of high school football in the 2022 campaign. In 13 games, Holloway recorded 59 total tackles, including 39 solo stops, 20 assisted takedowns and one tackle for loss. Holloway additionally forced one fumble, recovered a fumble and led the team in interceptions on the year, hauling in six for 103 yards. With great size, speed and toughness, Holloway has proven to be a challenge for offenses to contain. What makes Holloway so solid is his reaction time and overall game awareness as he can quickly apply pressure on the quarterback, make quick tackles or haul in a pick. Holloway will definitely be worth watching next season.
Avaion Johnson Avaion Johnson 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Louisville Central | 2025 State KY , a 5-foot-10, 166-pound defensive back out of Louisville Central High School, gave the Yellow Jackets a huge defensive edge during his sophomore season of high school football last year. In 13 contests, Johnson recorded 77 total tackles, including 74 solo stops, three assisted takedowns and one sack. Johnson additionally forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and hauled in two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. With excellent size and speed, Johnson has showcased his ability to consistently protect the backfield and barrel through the offensive line to make plays. Johnson is worth keeping an eye on in the 2023 campaign.

Ethan Moore Ethan Moore 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Madison Southern | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back out of Madison Southern High School, had an impactful sophomore stint of high school football with the Eagles last year. In 11 games, Moore recorded 34 total tackles, including 21 solo stops, 13 assisted takedowns and two tackles for loss. Moore additionally forced one fumble and hauled in an interception. Moore contributes excellent size, speed and game knowledge as he competes on both sides of the ball. Moore is capable of making quick stops or sticking with the offense in coverage. Moore was a tough player to contain last season, and will likely be even more unstoppable next season.
Uriah Points Uriah Points 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Louisville Central | 2025 GA , a 5-foot-10, 161-pound defensive back out of Louisville Central High School, was a significant piece of the Yellow Jackets’ defense during his sophomore season of high school football last year. On the defensive side of the ball, Points contributes great size, speed and awareness as he made big plays all season long, all while defending the backfield. Points has no problems barreling through the offense to create pressure and make stops. The rising junior will definitely be worth keeping an eye on this fall.
