Continue ReadingOut of all the players that performed exceptionally well in this past 2022 football season, the wide receivers took the majority of crazy performances throughout the season. The wide receiver position could be a hit or miss for many players as there are many dependent variables necessary for a receiver to be successful in. However, most of those factors were present enough for these receivers to have spectacular seasons which would enable them to get more interest from collegiate recruits. Today, I will be listing out the top-performing wide receivers from this past 2022 season, alongside some honorable mentions.
Past Analysis: Chandler’s route running is extremely unique compared to other top receivers in Kentucky. Not only just attempting to break free of opposing defensive backs to receive the ball like most receivers, but Chandler has also learned how to gain leverage off good coverage and still come up with the football. His footwork and positioning to receive the football are top-notch which helped him gain many receptions and lead the entire state in receiving yards and touchdowns. The senior also has a 4.59 40-yard dash which helps him dust past the defensive backs on routes. Although not the tallest receiver like the other prospects in the state, Chandler uses his IQ and high leaping ability to catch difficult passes that most receivers his size would have zero chance of catching. His talent should not be slept on and I expect college coaches to finally recognize his potential once his senior season ends.
End of Season: It’s safe to say Chandler Godby Chandler Godby 5’9″ | 170 lbs | WR Pulaski County | 2023 State KY was on a whole different level than most of all the receivers in the state this season. The senior led the state in total receiving yards, receptions, touchdowns, and yards per game. Chandler made the game look like a piece of cake with his superior route-running and stellar ability to get separation from the opposing DB. Along with that, his speed helps him drive past incoming safeties which help him claim more yards after the catch. Chandler’s athleticism makes it also difficult for any opposing DB to even have a chance at making an incompletion. Just a few days back, the young man committed to Georgetown College where I see him becoming a star for their squad.
Highlights
Past Analysis: It is pretty easy to understand why Jakob Dixon is ranked #2 in our state rankings for the wide receiver position. The young man is built like a younger Calvin Johnson, who possesses a superb leaping ability when catching balls over his head. What is astonishing about Jakob is his strength when not receiving the ball. There are clips of him bringing down opposing DBs when making a block, which is something I never see out of a wide receiver. The young man also has excellent route-running skills, and his quick footwork helps him make impressive jukes on opposing DBs to create open space. Not to mention, Jakob ran a 4.50 on his 40yd dash, which shows his stellar speed on the field.
End of Season: Jakob finished out his senior season strong, coming up with 64 receptions for 1,089 receiving yards & 15 receiving touchdowns for his Pleasure Ridge Park High School squad. Jakob, one of the highest receiver prospects in the state, did not disappoint this season as he was able to make highly contested catches with little difficulty. One of Dixon’s notable traits is his pure physique & athleticism which he uses to his advantage to become a highly rated prospect. Along with Jakob’s build is his ability to get high in the air to grab a catch, and he can catch about almost anything as if his hands are like glue. He is fully committed to the University of Kentucky, and I see him building a good college career in Lexington.
Dalton Carter Dalton Carter 6’0″ | 180 lbs | WR West Jessamine | 2023 State KY had an amazing senior season as he recorded 76 receptions for 1,252 receiving yards & 9 receiving touchdowns in 11 games played. Dalton’s main talented attribute is his tenacious running ability, especially when gaining yards after the catch. Since Dalton also was a running back option on the West Jessamine offense, his running mechanics transitioned into his receiver play which enabled him to find gaps in the defense after a reception. Most of Dalton’s “big-yardage” plays came from short passes where Dalton can use his vision and IQ to find the weak spot in the defense and exploit them. But what helps Dalton continue making big plays is his speed & quick acceleration as he can get to full sprint only a second after he catches the football, only for his speed to take him the rest of the way into the endzone. Lastly, Dalton is great at improvising his positioning when it is impossible to make a play off his initial route. When his QB is in trouble, Carter always knows where to go to find a spot that is easiest for his QB to throw to him to keep the play alive. As of now, Dalton Carter Dalton Carter 6’0″ | 180 lbs | WR West Jessamine | 2023 State KY has received a few collegiate offers, and I expect him to decide on his football future soon.
Camron Brogan
Camron Brogan
Camron Brogan was a receiver who was initially not on my radar until I found his end-of-season stats from the 2022 season. Camron finished his senior season with 79 receptions for 1,168 receiving yards & 17 receiving yards in 15 games played. What stood out to me immediately after watching Camron is that his lateral quickness and speed are phenomenal and make it extremely difficult for the opposing defense to keep up with him. Brogan can come up with some nasty jukes and nice shifty moves to create space from the defender for more yards after the catch. A lot of this success can be accredited to his top-notch footwork that helps keep him light on his feet and able to make sharp changes in the direction almost instantaneously. The athleticism and running mechanics are clearly there for Brogan and he uses them to his advantage to end up becoming one of the top-performing receivers in the Bluegrass State. Earlier this summer, he fully committed to Kentucky Wesleyan University where I see him building a successful career for the Panthers.
Although Max is being recruited as the top-rated kicker in the state, I could not ignore the crazy season he had at the receiver position. Max ended his senior season with Lexington Catholic completing 64 receptions for 1,425 receiving yards & 21 touchdowns in 13 games played. Max is just a purely athletic stud who can do anything asked of him on the football field. But as a receiver, he is amazing at making crucial catches with lots of contact and running for lots of yards after the catch. What is unique about Max is the strength that enables him to push off opposing DBs to come up with the grab, and when running the football, easily stiff-arming defenders to the ground to run into the endzone. It baffles me how such a kicking prospect has so much more talent & athleticism on his belt. Max is truly a one-of-a-kind talent and deserves recognition for his incredible performance at receiver this year. Max is fully committed to the University of Kentucky as a kicker, and it will be sad that he will not be able to fully utilize his talent on the football field as he did for Lexington Catholic High School.
