Every single Monday on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we’ll get the week started with a look at the top ten games across the state of Oklahoma. And this week, district races continue to heat up, district champions will be crowned this week, there are great games all over the state and we’re breaking down the ten best right here. Check back every Monday as we break down the top ten games every single week during the 2022 regular season.
1) #1 COWETA (8-0) AT #6 DEL CITY (7-1)
Once again, one of the top games this week comes in Class 5A as top-ranked Coweta looks to remain unbeaten by going on the road to take on Del City, who’s only loss was an overtime decision to McAlester. The following week, Coweta routed the Buffaloes and they definitely come into this contest with plenty of momentum and with a win, they can lock up the district championship. A loss will make things much more interesting within the district as there would be a three-way tie atop the standings going into week ten. The Tigers have been atop the 5A rankings since knocking off Carl Albert in week zero and their high-scoring offense will be challenged this week going against a Del City defense that has a few D1 prospects with Oklahoma State commit Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6'4" | DL Del City | 2023 State OK and Kansas State commit Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK . Thomas has shown he’s Del City’s top playmaker on offense.
2) #1 LINCOLN CHRISTIAN (7-1) AT #8 MULDROW (8-1)
The game of the week in Class 3A features top-ranked Lincoln Christian heading southeast to face off with #8 Muldrow. This game features two teams that were polar opposites coming into the season. Lincoln Christian was the #1 team in the preseason rankings. Muldrow wasn’t on the radar. It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs from Muldrow to get on that radar behind the emergence of senior Trenden Collins Trenden Collins 6'2" | ATH Muldrow | 2023 State OK , who has blossomed as a running back this fall. In fact, he’s just 31 yards away from reaching 2,000 rushing yards on the season. There aren’t complete stats for every team in Oklahoma, but we’ll go out on a limb and say that Collins is one of, if not the leading rusher in Oklahoma right now. But Friday’s clash with Lincoln Christian will without a doubt be the toughest test for Muldrow this year. Lincoln has looked like a complete team, determined to make it back to Edmond, over the last few weeks.
3) #2 BLANCHARD (6-2) AT #5 BETHANY (7-1)
It’s a top five battle in Class 4A as #5 Bethany will play host to #2 Blanchard in a critical district clash. The Lions have completely bounced back from their first two games of the season, where they lost to ranked teams from Class 5A. They’ve won six games in a row, including a big win over Tuttle in the final seconds earlier this month. For Bethany, they can get back into the district title picture by knocking off the Lions and forcing a three-way tie between these two teams and the Tigers from Tuttle. Blanchard’s offensive attack will certainly be tested by Bethany and their secondary specifically. Bethany senior Taylor Heim Taylor Heim 6'4" | 185 lbs | ATH Bethany | 2023 State OK has been one of the better players in Class 4A over the last two seasons and he’s definitely going to have a big impact on this game. For Blanchard, they’ll lean on their passing attack, where they have a few players that can stand out.
4) #8 PRAGUE (8-0) AT #4 VIAN (6-2)
It’s the top game in Class 2A this season and the district championship will be on the line as #4 Vian will play host to #8 Prague. You have to tip your cap to Prague as one of the biggest surprise teams, not only in Class 2A, but in the state this season. Head coach Rafe Watkins has taken over his hometown team and has them with an 8-0 record and one win away from a district championship. And the defense has been leading the way. The most points they’ve given up in a game is 14. They’ll need their defense to step up as they travel to Vian, where they have one of the best rushing attacks in the state, led by senior DeSean Mays DeSean Mays 6'0" | 160 lbs | RB Vian | 2023 State OK and freshman Masyn Wright Masyn Wright 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH Vian | 2026 State OK . The Wolverines are 6-2 on the year and have looked like the top five team that they are since dropping a pair of games to #1 Washington and 3A’s #1 Lincoln Christian earlier this season.
5) #7 POTEAU (6-2) AT #10 ADA (6-2)
We have a very interesting district race brewing in southern and southeastern Oklahoma. #7 Poteau travels to face #10 Ada in a game that will provide a little more clarity to the district title picture, but not much. Poteau beat up on Hilldale but lost to Broken Bow. Hilldale then beat up on Broken Bow. The teams ranked 7-10 in Class 4A are all from the same district. There are going to be quite a few good teams that have to go on the road in the first round are potentially miss out on the playoffs. Poteau still feels like they are the best team in the district but they will certainly be tested Friday night against an Ada team that has been a team on the rise in district play. The Cougars could make things very interesting in these last two weeks with wins over Poteau, followed by a week ten victory over Broken Bow. Then who knows what will happen with the standings.
6) #10 PIEDMONT (6-2) AT #3 BISHOP McGUINNESS (7-1)
We’ve been saying how 5A-2 might be the toughest district in the state this season and here’s another game featuring that district, as they continue to beat up on one another. #3 Bishop McGuinness bounced back from their first loss of the year to Carl Albert by beating up on Southeast. Meanwhile, Piedmont could completely throw a wrench into the plans of the other teams in this district here in the final two weeks. The Wildcats close out the regular season with games against McGuinness and #2 Carl Albert. With back to back wins, the Wildcats could continue to climb the district standings and they would have to be in the mix for the district crown. We’ll see a clash of styles as McGuinness and their high-powered but balanced offense will face Piedmont’s flexbone attack. If Piedmont can control the ball and keep McGuinness’ offense on the sidelines, they could knock off the Irish.
7) #5 SAND SPRINGS (5-3) AT #6 BOOKER T WASHINGTON (4-4)
It’s the top game in Class 6A-2 this week as #6 Booker T Washington will play host to #5 Sand Springs. While Muskogee and Stillwater have been the top teams within this district, this is still a marquee game as both teams have some talent and neither wants to lose another game with the end of the regular season right around the corner. For Booker T Washington, they’ll look to bounce back at the expense of the Sandites after falling to Muskogee last week. Like every game on this breakdown, this one will have playoff implications as the winner will have the advantage in the standings and have an easier path in the playoffs. Sand Springs will lean on some of their young but talented players to take the next step, while Booker T Washington is led by several seniors that are some of the better players in the state’s 2023 class.
8) #7 BROKEN ARROW (3-5) AT #5 JENKS (6-2)
In most years, the Broken Arrow-Jenks match-up would be much higher on a top ten list but that’s where we’re at this season. But despite Broken Arrow’s 3-5 record, let’s be real, this is still a marquee game every time the Tigers and Trojans face off. Jenks is getting back to 100 percent in terms of health after having so many starters out at different points during the regular season. And even though Jenks has had to deal with those injuries, they are still 6-2 and in the hunt for the district crown. For Broken Arrow, they’re looking to pick up any kind of momentum before the playoffs begin. They are also wanting to avoid having a losing record as they go into the postseason. Both teams had dominating wins last week. And it will be interesting to see Broken Arrow’s rushing attack with freshman KD Jones KD Jones 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Jenks | 2026 State OK , who is the son of former Jenks star Kejuan Jones, go up against the Trojans.
9) #4 HOMINY (8-0) AT #9 WOODLAND (6-2)
#4 Hominy will be challenged once again this week as they go on the road, looking to remain unbeaten and lock up the district crown with a win over Woodland, who has jumped back into the top ten after their 1-2 start. The Cougars have won five consecutive games but the toughest two games come in the final two weeks of the regular season as they play Hominy and Tonkawa in back to back weeks. This game also features a match-up with two of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Class A. Hominy junior quarterback Jaxon Woods Jaxon Woods 6'0" | ATH Hominy | 2024 State OK and Woodland senior quarterback Aidan Rhodes Aidan Rhodes 6'3" | 175 lbs | ATH Woodland | 2023 State OK have put up some monster numbers this season and in their careers. Both players are definitely more of a threat to run the ball, but they’ve also shown that if you load up the box to stop the run, they can beat you with their arms. This game should be a good one.
10) NOBLE (5-3) AT #9 MIDWEST CITY (6-2)
In one of the more underrated games in Class 5A, Midwest City will be playing host to Noble in a district showdown between two playoff teams. The Bombers have completely bounced back from their 0-2 start by winning their last six games and they currently sit with a perfect record in district play. But two of their toughest district contests are in the final week as they host Noble this week and will square off with Elgin in the regular season finale. For the Bears, they’ve had an up and down season with several close calls along the way. But the one thing that has been relatively consistent about them since the start of their season has been their explosive offense behind the QB-WR duo of Colin Fisher Colin Fisher 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Noble | 2023 State OK and Brandon Harper Brandon Harper 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Noble | 2023 State OK . But Midwest City’s young but talented secondary will look to shut them down on Friday night.
