October is here and we have begun updating all of our prospect rankings throughout the website. Last week, we released our first watch list for the 2026 class. The first rankings for that class will come out in January. This week, it’s all about the 2025 class. We’ve updated those rankings to feature the top 75 sophomores in the state. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. In this post, we’re taking a look at some of the best running backs, not only in the 2025 class, but in the state of Oklahoma today. Stay tuned throughout the week for more 2025 prospect breakdowns. And keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the month for the 2024 and 2023 prospect rankings.
We start this breakdown with Pocola running back AJ Lyons-Jerrell AJ Lyons-Jerrell 6’0″ | 195 lbs | RB Pocola | 2025 State OK . And he’s the first of four prospects that play Class 2A ball or lower on this list out of the five total. If you can play, we’ll find you and it doesn’t matter where you play. Jerrell enjoyed a breakout season for the Indians last year as a freshman. This year, Jerrell has worn a few different hats, splitting time at running back and also taking snaps at quarterback. But based on his film and also seeing him in person at our camp back in January, there’s no doubt that he’s a running back prospect when it comes to the next level. Jerrell and Pocola are looking to finish the season strong and make a run in the Class A playoffs. Pocola has a few names in the younger classes to keep an eye on and Jerrell is just one of them.

Staying in Class A with our next prospect with Wynnewood running back Caden Knighten Caden Knighten 6’1″ | 180 lbs | RB Pauls Valley | 2025 State OK . The small school prospect has been a top ten guy ever since making his debut in the rankings. He’s also one of the few 2025 prospects that has already picked up D1 offers. Knighten is having an outstanding sophomore season as he’s closing in on 1,500 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns on the ground. But this week we’ll have our attention on Wynnewood’s game with Ringling. The Blue Devils are one of the best teams in Class A and have arguably the best defense. It’s going to be a big test for Knighten and the Savages. If he shows up and still goes for 150+ yards on a big stage on Friday night, more of the state needs to start paying attention to Knighten not only as a top prospect, but a top overall player this year.

It’s been a rough year for Edmond Santa Fe as they enter week eight still searching for their first win of the season and they have to travel to face top-ranked Union. But there has been a bright spot this year on the offensive side of the ball and that’s been sophomore running back Demarius Robinson Demarius Robinson 5’9″ | 165 lbs | RB Edmond Santa Fe | 2025 State OK . This time last year, Robinson was having a breakout season as he was one of the top freshmen playing in Oklahoma and he was doing it at a high level, running for nearly 1,500 yards. This year, Robinson has had a much bigger target on his back and teams have been ready for him week in and week out. But because he’s one of the better backs in this class, he’s still found a way to impact the game. The sophomore season has been tough but there’s still a very bright future for Robinson.

We don’t cover near enough 8-man football as we should. But when we see a prospect emerging at that level that should be covered, we take notice. That’s the case with Laverne running back Felix Teal Felix Teal 5’9″ | 180 lbs | RB Laverne | 2025 State OK . When it comes to 8-man football in Oklahoma, Laverne is one of the top programs year in and year out. And they’re coming off a state championship where they were led by a freshman running back in Teal. In that title game, Teal ran for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns. He’s a shifty back that can make an opponent miss and he knows how to find his way into the open field. Then you see the speed and there aren’t too many defenders in the state that will be able to track him down. It’s a smaller field, there aren’t as many players on it, but this one is the real deal.

And our final prospect on this breakdown is the #1 overall prospect in the state’s 2025 class with another small school standout in Idabel running back Ravian Larry Ravian Larry 6’1″ | RB Idabel | 2025 State OK . Our first batch of rankings back in February had Larry in the top overall spot and he’s back there after a brief drop to #2 back in June. We first found out about Larry halfway through his freshman season when he was putting up monster numbers and performances in the first month of the season. Larry has picked up where he left off and is one of the top running backs in the state once again. Larry has established himself as a truly elite prospect in the state’s 2025 class. If he continues to grow and develop his skillset, he has the chance to be one of the higher rated running backs to come out of Oklahoma.
