The offseason has begun and that means 7v7 tournaments are in full swing. The first major tournament took place in Plano, Texas over this past weekend and Sooner7 was in attendance. With some of the best players in the state all coming together on several teams under the Sooner7 program, it was a great chance to see individuals shine. And it was a special weekend for some of the top quarterbacks in Oklahoma. In this post, we take a look at the six quarterbacks and how they faired over the weekend in Texas. And it should be mentioned that Sooner7 had three teams at the tournament. One 15U team and two high school teams. Each team had two quarterbacks who would alternate series. Stay tuned for offensive and defensive standouts from the 7v7 event.
Carson Trimble Carson Trimble 6'1" | QB Grove | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Grove
One quarterback who was right back at home playing with Sooner7 was Grove 2023 QB Carson Trimble Carson Trimble 6'1" | QB Grove | 2023 State OK . The Grove QB has been apart of the Sooner7 program for several years and you could tell as he took the field with Sooner7’s white squad. Trimble was incredibly confident leading the offense on his drives and was a vocal leader of the offense. As for his play on the field, that was not surprising as well as Trimble was able to showcase a variety of throws and had a pretty good weekend overall. Trimble is a fantastic athlete that has continued to grow as a quarterback and doesn’t get enough credit as a QB prospect. The state’s 2023 class has some pretty talented quarterbacks, a few of them are on this breakdown, but Trimble’s name should also be in that conversation.
Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Bixby
Trimble’s quarterback counterpart on Sooner7 white was Bixby 2023 QB Connor Kirby Connor Kirby 6'2" | 190 lbs | ATH Bixby | 2023 State OK and the Bixby junior was probably at the top of the list of prospects that we wanted to see in person. And it’s pretty simple why. We wanted to see him throw. Kirby enjoyed a breakout season becoming one of Bixby’s most important players during their run to another state championship. However, he did so being used primarily as a running quarterback. And he was good at it, leading the Spartans in rushing touchdowns this season. But we wanted to see him in a format where he had to throw the ball around and for the first tournament of the offseason, we were impressed. You can see Kirby’s background in baseball as he has a cannon of an arm and he’s gaining more confidence as a passer.
David McComb David McComb 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB Edmond Memorial | 2025 State OK – 2025 – Edmond Memorial
We’ve already written about Edmond Memorial 2025 quarterback David McComb David McComb 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB Edmond Memorial | 2025 State OK this month when he absolutely tore it up at our Showcase Camp in Broken Arrow. He had no problems throwing dimes on a rope despite consistent wind throughout the afternoon. So our expectations coming into this weekend were somewhat high to see how he would do in the first 7v7 tournament of the offseason. He was teamed up with fellow 2025 QB Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK and those two are going to be so fun to watch over the next three years. McComb showcased his arm once again and what really impressed us was his decision making. He could have fired missiles all over the field and really try to fit the ball in a window that might not have been there but he would make the right decision and either check down or take the time penalty. This should be a big offseason for the Bulldog standout.
Gage Gundy Gage Gundy 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Stillwater | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Stillwater
Stillwater 2023 quarterback Gage Gundy Gage Gundy 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Stillwater | 2023 State OK teamed up with Choctaw’s Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK to lead Sooner7’s blue team over the weekend. With several of his Stillwater teammates on the offensive side of the ball, Gundy looked very comfortable and was able to move the ball up and down the field. Certainly the biggest thing that stood out about Gundy over the weekend was his arm strength. The Stillwater standout was firing missiles into his wide receivers and while it was impressive, sometimes it also caused incompletions on drops. But as the tournament rolled on, both Gundy and his receivers adjusted and they started really getting on a roll into Sunday’s bracket play portion of the tournament. Gundy showed off his cannon arm but also had plenty of touch and accuracy to go along with it.
Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK – 2025 – Jenks
Our “MVP” for the quarterbacks over the weekend would go to Jenks 2025 quarterback Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK . The other five quarterbacks all played incredibly well but Reisig was as close to perfect as you could get. We mentioned this on Twitter when we tweeted Reisig’s highlights from the weekend but the Jenks freshman was surgical with how he carved up defenses over the two days. And when we say Reisig was as close to perfect as you can get, we don’t mean he was completing everything, which his percentage was probably really high. But more importantly, he was making the right decisions. He was putting the ball where it needed to go and at the right times. He wouldn’t force it if he didn’t have to and we came away very impressed with Reisig’s performance.
Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Choctaw
Whatever happened in between Saturday’s pool play and Sunday’s bracket play for Choctaw 2023 quarterback Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK must have been pretty good. Because after a Saturday in which Wasel looked somewhat unsure of where to go with the ball, that was the opposite of what he looked like on Sunday. And don’t get us wrong, Wasel still looked good on Saturday but he looked special on Sunday. He looked like the quarterback who is tops in his class and a top ten overall prospect. Along with Gundy, Wasel helped lead Sooner7’s blue squad all the way to the championship game of the tournament. That included bracket play wins over highly rated quarterback prospects and a semifinal win where he hit Choctaw teammate La’Trell Ray La’Trell Ray 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Choctaw | 2023 State OK for the game-winning touchdown.
