If we had to put a spotlight on the best overall performance from Choctaw on Friday, it would be hard not to pick senior running back

to be dominant in the pass game. He added 98 yards on seven catches. Ray has always been a running back who was just as dangerous carrying the ball as he is taking a handoff and running with it. Ray is a very underrated running back prospect when it comes to the 2023 class. He’s not the biggest running back and that’s what might be limiting what he can do in terms of his recruitment but look at the production in their biggest games this year and you’ll see a baller.

If we were ranking prospects in Oklahoma’s 2023 class who are criminally underrated, Choctaw running back

would be pretty high up there. The Choctaw running back has been outstanding for the Yellowjackets for several seasons and he’s arguably the most versatile player within Choctaw’s offense. Not only is Ray the leading rusher and has racked up big numbers in the pass game, Ray is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield. But like some of the state’s best players, what makes Ray a player to watch is what he can do in Choctaw’s biggest games. When we checked out the Yellowjackets this season against district foe Deer Creek, Ray was arguably the best player on Choctaw’s offense and he’ll look to have that kind of impact on Friday.

When you talk about the Choctaw offense, a lot of the attention can go to their quarterback, who has been one of the top players in the state since his sophomore season. But if you look at the Yellowjackets a little closer, you see fellow senior

at the running back position and he’s been one of the more productive players in the state over the last few years. Ray is outstanding in the run game but he’s an extremely versatile athlete that is also just as dangerous as a receiver coming out of the backfield. We’ve written about Ray quite a bit over the last few seasons and we still don’t understand why he still flies under the radar sometimes.

showed that he’s not just an elusive running back that works best in space. He had a bit of a workhorse performance in the win as he would run for more than 200 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries. The Yellowjackets have one of the more efficient offenses in 6A-2 and that’s a big reason why they have to be considered a top contender with the playoffs beginning. Ray is one of the best playmakers in that playoff.Access all of Prep Redzone

The word “underrated” gets thrown around a lot when it comes to recruiting and high school athletes. It’s definitely a buzzword on websites like ours. But there’s no better word to describe Choctaw running back

. But take a closer look at the Yellowjacket offense and Ray is such a critical part to what they do. The combination of running ability and even catching the ball out of the backfield makes Ray such a fun prospect to watch and evaluate. Ray has been having another strong season and we’re looking forward to seeing how far he and the Yellowjackets can go in November.

is one of the more underrated running backs in the state of Oklahoma. We thought he was primed for a breakout season last fall, he had that. He’s been outstanding this season for the Yellowjackets. And even though he’s not as big as some of the other running backs in this class, he showed on Friday night that size is not everything. Going up against a very physical Deer Creek defense, Ray touched the ball 35 times on offense with 33 carries and 2 receptions. Deer Creek could not contain Ray in the running game as he finished with 175 yards and two touchdowns. He broke a couple big runs but the majority of them were short bursts where he lowered the shoulder, absorbed the contact and he kept coming back for more. We’ve been fans of Ray’s game for a while now and college coaches need to start taking a closer look at the dynamic back from Choctaw moving forward.

and he’s starting to prove it every single week. In a dominating win in week four, Ray finished with nearly 300 yards of total offense. He was a weapon in the run game and the passing game with over 100 yards rushing and receiving. Ray is a big reason why the Yellowjackets have to be taken very seriously as one of the favorites in Class 6A-2 this year.Access all of Prep Redzone
