Jones survived a scare from Chandler on Friday night as they continued district play. You can read the complete game recap RIGHT HERE. Here’s a more in-depth breakdown on the standouts from Chandler following their upset bid of Jones.
Casmen Hill Casmen Hill 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Chandler | 2023 State OK JR- RB/DB 5’11” 180
Hill was the main engine in the Chandler offense Friday night. Even though he only found the end zone once he still amassed 212 yards rushing on 27 carries. Hill is a powerful runner that is capable of shouldering the load and wearing down a defense. This was evident by how he was able to soften the Longhorn defense throughout the night. His lone touchdown came on a 29-yard rush that was the second score of the night for the Lions. Watch out for Hill and the Lions as they will definitely be a force throughout district play and into the playoffs.
Kaden. Jones SR- QB/DB- 6’0” 175lbs
Jones was the other half of the Chandler rushing attack. Even though he only carried the ball 9 times, he scored on a third of those rushes. With 34 yards Kaden still approached the 4 yard average on his carries and definitely made them count. His timely rushes in the Redzone kept Chandler in the game. While Hill wore down the opposing defense, Jones was able to capitalize with backbreaking scores that definitely turned the momentum of the game which was in favor of the Longhorns the entire first half. I came away really impressed with Kaden as he also completed 7 critical passes for 86 yards that was essential in keeping the Longhorns defense from completely loading the box and stopping the run. I absolutely expect Jones to continue to help the Lions maintain a balanced offense as they look to get back on the winning track in the coming weeks of district play.
Other Notable Perfomers
Jarin Greenfield SR WR/DB- 2 catches, 40 yards, 5 punts for 143 yards
Drake Rodriguez SR WR- 4 catches, 35 yards
Kyle Snodgrass SR ILB- 1 INT
Overall the Lions were able to stick to their philosophy of ground and pound that clearly takes a toll on opposing defenses. Normally an offense so heavily dependent on a grind it out type rushing attack would struggle to come back from a 21 point deficit. However with Chandler able to control the clock and have the ball almost 6 more minutes than the Longhorns they were able to limit the Jones offense in the second half and force them into a late game drive to win the game. Fortunately for them the opposing QB won’t be a 6’6” power five level talent on the other teams sideline every week and their talented and hard working group of runners should keep them in the race for a district title and nice run come postseason play.
