is the versatile type of DB that many programs would love to have in the FCS ranks. A playmaker that could play either corner, safety or nickel at the next level, Nielsen is one of those “bring him in and find a position for him later” type of talents.
A hard-hitter that can take a pass-catcher’s head off to ensure an incompletion, Nielsen can also lay the boom in the run game while serving as a sideline-to-sideline safety in coverage. The type of player that a DB coach may have to tell to take his foot off the gas when breaking up a pass, coaches would rather have that problem than a defensive back that’s reluctant to make a play. Nielsen is definitely the prior.
In 2025, he posted 35 tackles, including 22 solo and 3.5 TFLs.

. Tyler was able to post 31 tackles, two interceptions, a TFL, and a forced fumble as he patrolled the deep field at safety. Nielsen looks solid as a well-rounded safety who can flip his hips and drop into coverage or step into the box to help in run support. He has a solid frame at 6’1″ and 195 pounds, which allows him to deliver powerful tackles with the leg drive to knock ball carriers back at the point of contact. Nielsen flashes good range, showing he can move north-south and laterally very well. Keep an eye out for this up-and-comer!

The Bulldogs fielded a salty defense in 2024, and Nielsen was a big reason for its success. The sophomore produced 31.0 tackles, 27 of which were solo and one that went for lost yardage. Nielsen also intercepted a pair of passes. During his 10th-grade highlight video, Nielsen jumps off of the film. He’s a free safety that can move around the defensive formation. Nielsen looks especially proficient at covering the slot. His physicality and hard-nosed approach make him effective against the run, too. Nielsen is a student-athlete that can help on special teams at the next level as well.
