I’m not sure if Portera will make this Jersey Shore AYF 14U All-Star team or not, but he’s a tough kid for his size. At just 5-foot-6 and 195 pounds (size unverified) Portera played with a Pit Bull-mentality throughout the tryout and impressed me on the offensive line. He gives up obvious size at just 5-foot-6, but he played with a lot of strength and an extremely low center of gravity which allowed him to win many reps. Against some of the bigger guys he was just physically outmatched, but he won all the reps you’d expect him to win and some additional ones. Looks like he could be a very good high school center and defensive tackle, given his stature allows him to get into-and-under the breast plate of the guys he’s lined up across from.
