About Malcolm
Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Smith measures in at 6’3 205-pounds. He has prototypical size for an off-ball / edge rushing linebacker. Last season, he had 58 total tackles, 8 TFL, 6 sacks, 4 pass deflections, and 1 forced fumble. He has good athletic ability due to his very good balance, good speed, lateral quickness, and acceleration. Smith demonstrates good read and reaction speed. He has good sideline to sideline range. Does a good job stuffing gaps at the line of scrimmage. When he’s lined up on the edge, he shows his good bend. Good get off and block shedding. Disengages with his blocker and uses his relentless pursuit to chase down the QB. Smith puts his arms up to create pass deflections. Good tackler too. I’m excited to see how he does this camp season.

Read EvaluationRobert Davis | Prep Redzone Scout
Smith is a versatile linebacker/edge defender who brings a disruptive presence to the front seven. His get off allows him to quickly penetrate the backfield and apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks when he is utilized as a pass rusher. Smith shows a natural feel for timing his rush, which helps him create consistent disruption behind the line of scrimmage. In space, he is a reliable open field tackler who takes good pursuit angles and closes quickly to take away running lanes. His ability to track ball carriers and finish plays is evident with his 8 tackles for loss and 6 sacks. As he continues to develop his frame and refine his technique, his stock is trending upward. He is a name that should gain significant traction throughout the offseason as more programs evaluate his film.
