Expert Analysis

Smith had one of the more lively arms there all weekend and was whipping the rock with ease. The wind impacted a handful of QBs this weekend, but Smith was not one of them. His incredibly quick release and the way he snaps his wrist when he throws the ball helps it slice right through the wind. He’s accurate and doesn’t have an issue putting the ball into tight spots. The guys on his team love him and all the way to the championship round, you could feel the confidence from the team radiate as long as they had Smith.

, a quarterback for 502 7v7 that proved his explosiveness under center all throughout the tournament. In addition to quick execution, Smith’s precise decision-making and his ability to complete the quick pass stands out. I also like how Smith can maneuver the pocket, scan the backfield for open receivers and complete the touchdown pass under pressure.

, a quarterback at Louisville Male High School. Smith and the Bulldogs earned a 34-14 win over Fern Creek this past week. What stands out most about Smith is his unpredictability under center. Smith can both gain yards on the ground himself as well as hit his receivers in stride anywhere on the field. Smith’s short throws and consistent deep passing also impresses, showing off his arm strength, precision in the air and his ability to put his team in the endzone.

is a quarterback that had a very impressive final regular season and has carried his success into the playoffs. Smith led Male to a first round victory over Great Crossing, completing 12/14 passes for 313 yards and six touchdowns. Kolter showcased his impressive arm strength which he used to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. He also showed the ability to escape the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Smith currently holds several offers and I can see him becoming a successful quarterback at the next level wherever he decides to play. Kolter will look to continue to lead his team on their journey back to the 6A State Championship Game in a second round matchup against Fern Creek this week.

is a player that has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to impress in his senior season. He has Male right back in the State Championship hunt once again, completing 104/151 passes for 1,828 yards, 26 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Smith has impressive ball placement, showing the ability to put the ball where only his intended receiver has a chance to catch it. He also has shown the ability to roll out of the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Smith has also shown a very strong arm which he uses to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Kolter currently holds multiple offers and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play quarterback at the next level.

Although highlighting him in a recent post, Kolter put up another highly dominant performance for the Louisville Male Bulldogs. Playing against Fern Creek High School, Kolter completed 13/15 of his passes for 262 passing yards and 7 passing touchdowns! As I mentioned before, Kolter is an extremely dynamic quarterback prospect who can make big-time plays in a variety of different methods. No matter how or what Kolter does, he seems to always get the job done for his offense. One major trait that is highly valuable for most college and pro-offensive players is reliability. Not only is Kolter reliable, but he is one of the BEST at being reliable to get the job done for his team. Stay tuned to see him and the Bulldogs play in the postseason.

A poised, technically proficient and flapless competitor, Smith shared the Bulldog quarterbacking duties throughout his junior season, completing 56 of 96 pass attempts for 871 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 total contests. Thus, while he already has demonstrated the ability to play well at a very high level, it nonetheless is exciting to note his Week 1 performance now that he alone carries the “QB1” moniker this fall. In Male’s surprisingly lopsided 34-3 victory over Ballard, he completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 237 yards and 4 touchdowns and seems poised to steer his very talented offensive unit and team to another legitimate run at the state’s 6A title. While a number of specific attributes contribute to his success playing the position, his ability to maintain throwing position on the move, release the ball quickly and exercise patience when initial reads are covered combine to separate him from most of his comparable peers.
