With the 2023 high school football season in the state of Kentucky behind us, I wanted to focus on some of the top players from this past season. In order to do this, I will be releasing my Regular Season All-State teams in each class. I will kick things off with my 2023 Regular Season All-State offense in 6A.
Kolter Smith Kolter Smith 6’0″ | 190 lbs | QB Louisville Male | 2024 State KY is a player that has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to impress in his senior season. He has Male right back in the State Championship hunt once again, completing 104/151 passes for 1,828 yards, 26 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Smith has impressive ball placement, showing the ability to put the ball where only his intended receiver has a chance to catch it. He also has shown the ability to roll out of the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Smith has also shown a very strong arm which he uses to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Kolter currently holds multiple offers and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play quarterback at the next level.
Highlights
Journey Wyche Journey Wyche 5’10” | 185 lbs | ATH Ballard | 2024 State KY is a player that caught my attention last season and has continued to impress as a senior. He has been very impressive out of the backfield, finishing the regular season with 112 carries for 936 yards and 15 touchdowns. Wyche has explosive speed, showing the ability to burst through the running lane and simply run away from the defense. He has also shown impressive contact balance, showing the ability to break tackles in the open field without losing stride. Journey has also played a key role in the passing game, catching seven passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns so far. He is also an electric returner on special teams, returning one kickoff for a touchdown this season. Wyche currently holds offers from Bucknell, Wofford, UT Chattanooga, Youngstown State, Lindenwood, and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber running back prospect.
Another 6A running back that has stood out to me this season is Mykel Malone Mykel Malone 5’11” | 190 lbs | RB Fern Creek | 2024 State KY from Fern Creek. In nine games, Malone carried the ball 140 times for 1,156 yards and 14 touchdowns. Malone is a physical, downhill that punishes defenders when they try to tackle him. He has shown that he has the contact balance to run straight through defenders without breaking stride. Once he hits the open field, he has also shown that he has the elusiveness to make defenders miss. Mykel doesn’t currently hold any offers but he deserves some attention from college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Shaun Boykins Shaun Boykins 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR North Hardin | 2024 State KY is a player that has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to stand out this season. Boykins finished the regular season with 60 catches for 1,062 yards and 14 touchdowns in seven games. He has continued to be a very dangerous deep threat, using his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs to create separation. Boykins is also electric after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes and screens into big plays at any given moment. He has also played a small role in the run game, scoring two rushing touchdowns this season. Boykins is committed to Louisville where I can see him developing into a key piece of their offense once he gets there.
Max Gainey Max Gainey 5’9″ | 155 lbs | WR Louisville Male | 2024 State KY is another high-caliber wide receiver that has continued to impress this season. He finished the regular season with 38 catches for 708 yards and 14 touchdowns. Gainey is a very skilled route runner, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. He is also dangerous after the catch, showing the ability to turn short passes/screens into big plays at any given moment. Gainey has also scored two rushing touchdowns, and has proven to be a very reliable returner on special teams, returning two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns. Max currently holds an offer from Purdue and I expect more to come his way as he is a Power 5 wide receiver prospect.
Grady Reynolds Grady Reynolds 6’5″ | 215 lbs | TE Ryle | 2024 State KY is a tight end that caught my attention last season and has continued to impress in 2023. Reynolds has played a key role in the Ryle passing game, finishing the regular season with 41 receptions for 588 yards and three touchdowns. He has shown the ability to line up all over the formation , whether it be as a true tight end, H-Back, or slot receiver. In the passing game, Reynolds is a skilled route runner that has shown the ability to run a full route tree and create separation with smooth breaks in his routes. He is also dangerous after the catch, showing the speed to get up the field and toughness to break tackles to pick up extra yards. Reynolds is also a very reliable blocker, showing the ability to wall off defenders and drive them out of the picture to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Grady currently holds an offer from Bucknell and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to be a very productive tight end at the next level.
Highlights
Isaac Sowells Jr. Isaac Sowells Jr. 6’2″ | 290 lbs | OL Louisville Male | 2025 State KY is a player that has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to impress this season. Sowells made the move to right tackle this season and is the true leader and has thrived in his new position. He is a true mauler in the run game, showing the ability to explode out of his stance and drive his man down the field. Sowell has also shown the ability to pull from the tackle spot and pick up blocks in open space. He is also reliable in pass protection showing the ability to mirror pass rushers off the edge and keep a strong base, not allowing much penetration into the pocket. Sowells holds multiple Power 5 offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a special offensive line prospect that could play in multiple different spots at the next level.
Highlights
Zuri Madison Zuri Madison 6’5″ | 280 lbs | OL Frederick Douglass | 2024 State KY is another high-caliber offensive line prospect that has continued to impress this season. Madison lines up at right tackle where he is a very dominant run blocker. He has shown the ability to explode out of his stance and drive his man out of the picture to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Madison finishes his blocks through the whistle, resulting in several pancake blocks. He is also reliable in pass protection, showing the ability to get into his pass sets and keep his head on a swivel to find work to keep his quarterback protected. Zuri is committed to Arkansas where I can see him becoming a key piece of their offensive line once he gets there.
Aba Selm Aba Selm 6’4″ | 295 lbs | OL Simon Kenton | 2024 State KY came into this season as our highest rated offensive lineman in his class and he has continued to impress as a senior. He has shown the ability to play both guard and tackle where he has been dominant in the run game. Selm does a great job of keeping his feet running through contact to drive his man down the field. He finishes his blocks with a ton of physicality, resulting in several pancake blocks. Selm has also played a key role on defense this season but has continued to stand out the most on offense. Aba is committed to Kentucky where I can see him developing into a key piece of their offensive line once he gets there.
Carter Guillaume Carter Guillaume 6’2″ | 255 lbs | OL St. Xavier | 2024 State KY is an offensive lineman that has quickly climbed up my radar this season. Guillaume lines up at center where he is very impressive as a run blocker. He has shown the ability to snap the ball quickly while stepping to his man then driving them out of the picture to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Carter has also shown the ability to get up to the second level and pick up blocks in open space. He is also reliable in the passing game, showing the ability to keep his head on a swivel to pick up stunts and blitzes. Carter is committed to Southeast Missouri State where I can see him developing into a key piece of their offensive line.
To wrap up my 6A Regular Season All-State offense, I have Aiden Howard Aiden Howard 6’5″ | 250 lbs | OL Madison Central | 2024 State KY from Madison Central. Howard has shown the versatility to play both guard and tackle where he is dominant as a run blocker. He explodes out of his stance and has shown the ability to drive his man several yards down the field. Howard finishes his blocks through the whistle, resulting in several pancake blocks. He is also reliable in pass protection, showing the ability to keep a strong base and not allow for much penetration into the pocket.
