I’ve been doing this stuff for a while, and I don’t know if I’ve seen as impressive a performance as I’ve seen against a high-level player. Jorquis faced off against the Mustangs’ pair of talented defensive ends, and more than held his own. So much so, that a heavy percentage of the run plays in the Lions’ offense were behind their big right tackle, a Lenoir-Rhyne commit to play college football. It was excellent run blocking and solid pass protection all night for Jorquis. I spoke with him after the game.

Jorquis recently committed to Lenoir-Rhyne, and that school is doing an excellent job locally in collecting some of the best offensive linemen in Charlotte. That being said, Jorquis is having an excellent senior season. The thing I like most about him is his leadership and setting an example for his teammates to follow up front. Jorquis is physically dominant in the running game and doesn’t give ground in pass protection. I’m excited to see how he continues to develop on the next level.

Broome has impressed early this season, and he’s done it against some of the top defensive linemen in the state. His film is excellent. While his calling card is drive blocking and finishing through the whistle, he’s impressed me with some reps on him getting to reach blocks and walling things off in the running game. He’s an aggressive pass-blocker with a strong base and we like him as a tackle.

i thought Jorquis was impressive in this game. I liked his run blocking and pass protection, but what really stood out to me was his leadership and voice. He was communicating with his linemen and teammates, and consistently giving feedback to the coaching staff on how the defensive front was lining up and which plays could attack it. As a former OL coach, that stuff gets you excited. I see a leader up front for the Lions that can help take them a long way this year.

Broome can play center, guard, or tackle, but he’s probably going to play center at the next level. He’s earned several scholarship offers this fall from excellent Division II teams and with a strong senior season we wouldn’t be surprised to see him creep into that FCS level of the rankings.

Jorquis now attends West Charlotte High School, and he had a strong showing after not playing last season. Jorquis has impressive strength at the point of attack and fits his hands well in pass protection against defensive tackles. As a center prospect, Jorquis showed the ability to handle shaded techniques without help in pass protection and showed good footwork overall. Jorquis picked up offers from Elizabeth City State and Johnson C. Smith Universities after his strong showcase performance.

An All-Conference selection last season, Joaquin was credited with an impressive 49 pancake blocks last season, and his highlight film backs that claim up. Jorquis is a center, and with his size profile you would expect him to start seeing some recruiting interest come his way. I think coaches may want to see Jorquis work more on climbing 2nd level and cutting off linebackers in combo block situations, but other than that I think he’s got a lot of things you want in a player with future college football aspirations.
