Francis was impressive enough in limited passing reps last year to earn a spot in the winter rankings update. But it was hard to tell in his run-first offense how talented he actually is. At our Prep Redzone Exposure Camp, Francis had by far the most surprising arm. The ball jumps out of his hand in a way you only see from top passers. Because of his age, he still has plenty of time to develop, and he should have the chance against top competition this year to prove he’s one of the top sophomore passers in the state.

Francis transferred from run-heavy Mount Airy to an East Forsyth team that threw the ball nearly 300 times last season, so that should be a fun change-of-pace for the high-upside rising sophomore. He threw a catchable ball and showcased impressive accuracy last year. There’s some projection needed here, but he’s an excellent track athlete with huge rushing upside, even if he doesn’t become a full-time starter in 2026.

Though the varsity numbers didn’t show it as a freshman, Francis is a true dual-threat quarterback with some rushing upside. As a younger guy, Francis has put in the work and practiced standing in the pocket and delivering. That allowed him to show good accuracy in limited reps, and we expect to see the rushing totals to tick up as a sophomore, and he’s already shown his speed as a track athlete.

He threw a bunch of really nice passes during the second practice when South Carolina 7th and 8th graders again combined squads for practice. In fact, he was at the helm for the offense of both grades during the practice. For a kid who just made the switch to playing Quarterback within the last two years, he really impressed me. Threw a number of great passes specifically up the seems and into the flat.
