A lot of us know Kayden as an EDGE player, and that’s how we have him ranked here at Prep Redzone North Carolina. However, this season, Kayden is moving to play more at an off-ball linebacker spot for West Charlotte, so it was interesting to see how he is adapting to the transition early in the process. Kayden looked good in the agility circuit, but seeing him play in the run and pass game 1-on-1s, I think he’s going to be more than fine in this new role. Plus, blitzing from depth should be a major strength of his game in this role, also.

Kayden is an elite pass rusher off the edge – his quickness in a straight pass situation is very difficult for offensive tackles to deal with. I’ve seen Kayden dominate in camp settings because of this. But I thought this year, I thought he did a really good job of improving his play against the run. I saw this up close against a Mallard Creek team that likes to establish the running game on offense. Kayden was an important piece of slowing their attack down, leading to a big victory at the time.

Smith is as quick as any edge rusher in the state, and offensive have a difficult time squaring him up. He plays a lot off the ball, but when it’s time to pin his ears back and get after the quarterback, he can do that. He’s not really a power guy, but he doesn’t have to be, and offenses really struggle to scheme around Smith’s versatility.
