The UMD Commit and son of Terps legend Vernon Davis looks to the driving force and leader of McNamara’s defense this fall. Able to play stand up OLB or a hand in the dirt DE, Jianni offers versatility as a defensive playmaker. He possesses great burst of the snap. Able to bend edge, get flat down the line and has excellent hand work to beat OTs. Athletic enough to also drop back and play in space, with twitchy hips Jianni and re-direct quickly and get sideline to sideline. He can chase down ball carriers from the backside and is quick to close on the play. An impactful player in both supporting the run and the pass rush game, Jianni will be a top playmaker for McNamara all year long.

Jiannai Davis: Explosive Edge Rusher with Game-Wrecking Potential

Few edge defenders in the 2025 class play with the urgency and disruption of Jiannai Davis. A high-motor pass rusher with closing speed, Davis lives in the backfield. He comes off the edge with purpose, showing the ability to bend tight around tackles while maintaining balance and acceleration through contact.

His awareness at the point of attack is advanced, Davis consistently keeps his eyes on the quarterback, using his length and timing to affect passing lanes by batting down throws when he can’t get home. He’s just as disruptive in the run game, knifing into gaps and chasing down ball carriers with rare pursuit speed. Once he’s in space, he’s almost impossible to shake.

Davis currently holds 12 scholarship offers, all from respected high mid-major programs such as East Carolina, Marshall, and Maryland. As he enters his senior campaign, expect his stock to continue trending upward as Power Five programs begin to take notice of his explosive skill set and upside as a true edge disruptor.
